I do As a Brit, Shakespeare was part of my quota of literature in almost every year in high school, then in my second year of college. My faves... Othello: Iago is such an amazing character (upholding my believe that villans really are cooler and get better lines) Emilia is fantastic too, very underated in the play but her attitude is very modern. Midsummer nights dream: I love the whimsy and all the seperate plots with the faries and the play. Macbeth: The theme of fate/destiny is really intresting. And Lady Macbeths call to the dark spirits is my favourite speech. Shakespeare's sonnets are wonderful too.
OMG i love shakespeare! my fave would have to be either Macbeth! its electric on stage and to read its dead good!!! xxxxxxxxxxxxx
I love Hamlet! My class went to go see the play, unfortunately it wasn't a very good one. I do however like the movie, the one with Kenneth Brangah or however you spell his name.
I've been a great lover of shakespeare for many years - It's not easy to pin down any firm favourites but they must include King Lear, Macbeth, The Tempest and Hamlet. But check out 'Titus' starring Anthony Hopkins in a brilliant performance of S's darkest play 'Titus Andronicus'. Been out a few years so its on video & DVD. One to give a miss, IMHO, is Mel Gibson's 'Hamlet'.
I like the sonnets. You'll find genius in the plays but if you want a full sense of Shakespeare's power this is where to look. I have a number of favourites and each is a small lesson in the ability of words to convey and enlarge human experience. Shakie's the best!
i love shakespeare, i have my favourites though, a winters tale, othello (for iago alone, he is incredible) a midsummers night dream, hamlet, romeo and juliet, ah lets say all of them. i get lost in the language and the drama. its amazingto read and watch een if you are not 100% sure whats happening the whole time!!! after reading him does anyone else find themselves talking how they do in the plays??? maybe this is just me!!!! peace, morna
Do you think Shakespeare was "inspired" by Francis Bacon? What do you think about the plagiarism claims (especially for the Hamlet) ?
My favorites are Hamlet and Midsummer Night's Dream. I like Hamlet just because it proves the point that hiding and lying about things is a sure way to screw up more than you're going to help... That's pretty pared down, but the idea is there. MND is just fun. Plus, my nickname in high school was "Puck"... I can't remember why. I like the Bard, there's some seriously treatable mental illness in his writing that I can appreciate.
