http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/magazine/7509572.stm It's talks about how to do an American accent, I just found it weird because you know no matter where you live everyone find the concept of having an accent odd, cause they hear their type of language every day of the week. Especially Americans though, cause basically all the media we see is in american English too and even music in most bands from Britain or Ireland or whatever the accent generally gets lost in the singing.
there's more than one type of accent heard in the united states. all one needs to do is travel from one part of the usa to another to hear the difference(s).
American accent? thats kinda weird since accents range hardcore depending on what area of the country or what part of a state you are in.. like the southern drawl.. or you got your midwesterns with their "don'cha'knows and yah's"... and then northern minnesota it gets even thicker.. east coast like mass.. and new york have different accents.. there is no one "american accent"
There are many different American accents but that's the point, they're all American accents, but there is one general accent, like I've been to the south, most people in the south might use different words, but generally sound the same as people around here.
i doubt i will find anyone that has lived in say Mississippi/Louisiana their whole life sound anything near someone that comes from Connecticut
i get what you're saying dude people that seem to have "no accent" in the sense that they speak "plainly" ie not british, not french, not southern, not northern i'm one of those people with a "plain" accent, and i'm from the south it's funny, the county i'm from is sort of divided, you have the sort of "uppity" half, where people speak plainly, and you have where i'm from "downeast" where people are identifiably southern everyone thinks i'm from beaufort (the uppity half, which is a lame way to describe it actually) b/c i don't have a southern, or rather, a downeast accent
Different parts of every country in every language have different accents. In Britain, pretty much every county and city will have different accents. I imagine its the same in America varying between states. I myself find it harder to differ between American accents, but obviously I am from a different country.
i have a hick accent hahaha i just watched the video by the way, i like how right in the beginning the guy is trying to sound american.
lmao. i have a plain accent but bit of other accents show through. thats because of my moving all over the east coast and texas. the horace you said ppl think your from beaufort.. do you mean South Carolina Beaufort? its been a while since i lived there but no one seeemed uppity to me...
Even in NY we have widely varying accents. Where I am its I guess your typical "American accent" but downstate its a bit different then in parts of western NY theres a bit of a southern drawl then far upstate you get the "Canadian" dialect.
Hugh Laurie does it the best. I had no idea he was British until I saw him in something besides House.
