    Hello all
I am seriously thinking about getting dreads next month, but reading through al the posts on here I'm starting to get a bit nervous. Mould in your hair, lots of maintenance in the first few months, bad smells, etc. Is it really worth it? But I want them and I would like someone to be really honest and tell me if they think they are worth it. I have long hair (halfway down my back) and I don't like the idea of having it all cut off if it goes wrong. Also, I am white so I'm not sure how it would take on my hair. Help!

I am by no means an expert on the subject. However, I made my new babies just last night, and today I am in love with my hair for the first time, frizz and all.

no need for maintenance, less then normal hair, no smell if dried after being wet and without wax, no mold either if dried.

Just let it lock naturally and there isn't a thing that could possibly go wrong. it's the most natural process ever.

The only way you could get mold in your hair is if you are getting it wet waaaay too often, like never letting it completely dry. or wearing it up in a tam all the time when it is wet. It is not a very common thing...

Dreadlocks do not need to be high maintenance. In fact, mine are extremely LOW maintenance. ALL I do is wash....and that's it. nothing else, and they are coming along great.

this is related to the mold thing. the only way it could get smelly, is if oyu dont wash it often enough. again, not a very common problem.

the choice is up to you. If you don't think it is, then don't get em.

From what I can tell, if you really care that much about all the maintenance and stuff, you don't really want them bad enough.

they are high maintanance only if your addicted to maintanance
it seems some people just cant get it through theyre heads that dreads are naturaly the way your hairs meant to be if you just stop maintaining unnatural styles
they are addicted to trying to force every hair to behave the way they choose (not the way youir hair wants to behave) so they twist roll rub even crochett or goop up with wax just so they can feed that control habbit

letting that go is soooo freeing, just allowing the process to take over withoiut any help from you,
ofcourse a very small amount of maintanace maybe needed if your completely aposed to a unidread (the worlds longest dread is a unidread 38 feet long so if ya do unidread theres nothin wrong with that) but if ysa wanna maintain a head full of individual dreads 5-15 min a month iojn most cases is plenty of maintanance..if you find your hairs trying to congo excessivly u may need alittle extra ripping at 1st
im encouraging congoing now and havent ripped in a month and a 1/2 or linger and havent found any areads that have congod outta control bigger thgen an inch 1/2 or so
i have been checking on em every couple days though ready to rip if need be but soi far happy with thre results
