Early last century it was good to be born in america, the century before that it was good to be born in the uk, and this century i think its good to be born in china. So learn mandarin chinese damnit, learn it quick. It'll be the most important thing you've ever done. anyone agree

So their kids can come over here and steal all our jobs.
The rise of China includes allowing their people to move abroad.

Why would China move here to steal jobs? Hell we hand them over to them on a daily basis and we deliver.

Because our jobs have more prestige and we pay more.
I'm not talking about manual work, I'm talking about Doctors/Nurses/IT etc - high end jobs.
Jobs their children have studied for and are more geared to take up.
They teach their kids to achieve more than we do.

Polish immigrants have helped their native country boost their economy.
Imagine the affect of millions of Chinese being able to emmigrate more freely.
Not only will they have our low payed jobs and industries, but they will have better access to our higher end jobs a well.
    A double wammy.

    Imma ninja yo. :D

Seriously tell China to get it's head outta it's ass and free tibet and allow it's citizens to freely use the interwebz and like become fairly liberated and then I could maybe agree...

But if this is about the population and the degree the chinese are using up resources...good job. Thanks for helping to kill the planet while you dance in Bliss. Yay Chinese. You learned a lot from other, um "industrilazed" nations.

Interestingly, with all of China's strong economic growth, they aren't nearly as militaristic as we are.

We control the seas at least. China and the US are tied to the hip now. More than about any countries in history. And theres a dichotomy in the fact that we haven't allowed ourselves to get particularly culturally or diplomatically close.

China rising doesn't necessarily mean the US will fall. Doesn't have too. And China has a whole lot of it's own issues to deal with.

Of course these are all generalisations, but my experience with Japanese is they aren't funny at all. They lead their lifes around prestige as no other (watch them on their holiday travels), although I've heard chinese aren't generally very different in that. Also, I've red/heard from several sources Japan has the most suicides connected to work or personal failures in the world.
Of the japanese and chinese restaurants that are here I prefer the chinese for sure.

I understood it depends a lot of where and in what class you are born in China.

I wouldn't be so sure of that.

Last year the US were patrolling the pacific ocean somewhere, and guess what popped out of the water from nowhere - a chinese submarine. It wasn't picked up on radar.

THey are apparently spending astronomical sums of money on defence, more than the US at the moment, which is a fucking lot.

That's not true. The US spends many times more of defense.

Submarines don't pop up on radar easily. That's their purpose.

    This is what saddens me:

"Both China and India are still desperately poor countries. Of the total of 2.3 billion people in these two countries, nearly 1.5 billion earn less than US$2 a day".

I was actually talking from the top of my head in my previous posts.
What I thought was occuring not the actuality of the situation.
It sounded (well I atleast thought so) plausible but I very much doubt any rise in China will see the things I say, come to pass.

I've seen a lot of "top of the head" thinking around here I thought I'd do the same for a wee while. Now I'll stop.
