I really like the hippie lifestyle and beliefs. I was just wondering what are some of the best places to buy some "hippie" clothing for men.
Plant, there are a variety of places. Some mall stores will have hippie-esque clothes, although that theme may not be in their entire retail wardrobe. Scavaging thrift stores may help, you never know when you come across some retro-printed shirt or super-flare jeans or funky shoes. Do a google search for online shops, or search around ebay.com/.ca or etsy.com to see which retailers there have some hippie clothes for men. Some big cities (I don't know where you live, but you may have to go for a drive) have some 'artsy' districts or 'hippie' districts that may have what you're looking for ~ I know in Toronto, at least, I find some hippie-esque clothes along the Danforth in/around Carrot Common area. After that, well, I dunno. Take up sewing and stitch yourself up some funky threads. Treck down some garage sales and see what clothes they're selling off. Good luck.
I could make some :-/ im hoping to have some mens stuff in my etsy store soon www.arliaflower.etsy.com im currently working on something for my man and he loves it.
That would be cool arlia, I'd like to get a thing or two for my hubby sometime. Plant, I would def. talk to the mamas here. They are super talented.
I find this whole "I wanna be a hippie where do I buy it" thing so funny, having grown up in the age of the original hippie movement (my best friend and I were the first people in Orlando FL referred to in the newspaper as "freaks".....now that whole town is a freak parade...but not too many of those freaks are hippies) True "hippie" is not something you become simply by buying some fashion someone labelled "hippie" (or even worse, HIPPY...ya can't BE it if you can't spell it). What we did back in the 60s, especially the guys who for the most part did not sew, was to go to thrift stores, yard sales, flea markets, etc and try to find something that was not what everyone else was wearing, was affordable, comfortable, and could look completely different by mixing and matching. Back in the 60's I made a lot of clothes for band guys, but more often I modified clothes they had found that fit them to give them a funkier edge and make them a one of a kind item. As an example, before there were manufacturers of bell bottoms on every corner, we used to pick up white navy uniform bottoms ("cracker jacks") with the button flap fronts, then paint them or have embroidered designs, patches whatever added. Army navy stores were also cheap places to pick up good solid clothes to modify. One of the main parts of being hippie and thinking hippie is that you've got to open the creative channels .... it's not always something you can buy.
modified navy pants hells yeah! man I stopped modifying clothes in favor of giving the genuine try to just make everything. you cant buy being a hippie, hippies are cool and rare, and as im pretty sure you dont choose to be a hippie, it just happens. people call me a hippie but i aint a fuckin hippie, just cause i look wierd doesn't mean im a hippie, fuck labels.
buy a $99 sewing machine when your local fabric store has a sale. find a funky fabric that talks to you (or screams, some fabric are screamers) learn to sew.
