Well, I've been jamming for sometime now. I used to play the djembe and jam in drum circles a lot, however I started playing the guitar a while ago and have since been playing it while jamming. I didn't fully realize the amazing power of a good jam session until after I got back from one at the park today. Just my friend and I took our guitars down there and played for nearly 3 hours...For about an hour I sang about what I had experienced/gotten out of life over just the past three days. I use to meditate a fair bit, but now I use music as a sort of form of meditation. When jamming I can express what I'm feeling right then and there and all the other thoughts I've gathered in every other "right then and there" moment of my life (more commonly known as the past....).

I realize that if you play an instrument you obviously enjoy it, however does anybody else feel this way when they play/sing? I always feel that's when one plays best too, that is when things just flow naturally and you literally speak what is on your mind, only through a different form of communication.

Here's to the art of music and the intricate human mind!

Improvisation and jamming are the most natural and satisfying ways of playing music. There is no better feeling than exploring improvisation... other than exploring with other people!

Learning music should be minimum 50 % jamming.

The Allman Brothers and the Greatful Dead are both legendary for their extended jam sessions.

Jamming is really what gave birth to Jazz music.

Some of my friends and I have a little jazz band (sax, trumpet, drums, piano, bass). Jazz is such an awesome opportunity to just jam out. We have a set playlist of songs and in the middle of practicing a song we'll just space out and jam for hours, thinking we didn't get anything accomplished. I love it

sometimes jamming with people who aren't really jamming but just recycling cliches that you can tell don't even affect them emotionally can be very tiring and tedious. But a GOOD jam session...well its the best medicine for whatever ails me at that point in time.

:iagree: And sometimes you jam with someone who just wants to show off his/her skills or maybe you catch yourself just wanting to show off your skills (or at least sound good) - performing, in other words, instead of jamming - and it just kinda ruins everything, you know?

Jamming is music as an organism, sometimes its orgasmic, sometimes its vile.
