So My hair's quite curly and so it grows really slowly. I was realy worried about getting dreads for a long time becaus ei thought I'd have to shave my head. I started about a month ago and I already LOVE them and I'm just wondering if anyone can give me an estimate for combing out? I was told you can soak dreads in conditioner and (with a lot of work) eventually comb them out. Any ideas? Thanks for any replies. You guys are a wealth of dread knowledge. xxx
If you wanna comb them out use a fork for starters, and conditioner and wash your hair many many times with icky greasy shampoo with lotsa lotsa soap^^
My sister managed to comb out all of her dreads (after having them for about a year or so, I think) but it took her well over an hour. I think she cut the bottoms off a bit, so some of the knotted hair would come loose. She used a lot of conditioner, more than one brush, and even some of that cheap detangling spray they sell for kids. It takes a long time, but you definitely do not have to shave your head.
why are you even thinking about it? if ya want dreads ya commit to dreads ya dont think about after, and if a day comes that ya do decide its time to chop you shed a tear or 2 if your gonna dread then dread..noit foir a few months ..not planning on combing em out while u still can instead ya want em to lock so tight nothing will get emj out
i agree with soaring eagle, dreads arent just a hairstyle to have and then change after a few months, they really are a commitment my hair is super curly and locked up really fast. i was at a point of no return about two months in. im sure its impossible to get all of your length back after you try to get them out, because of all the breakage. your hair will be virtually useless after its all brittle and ripped apart i think im probably going to shave my head when the time comes. everyone should have a shaved head at some point in their life. i think ill get a fat gnarly tattoo and then let it grow back
I got mine out after 9 months, don't listen to the others. Its fine to think ahead to a time where you wont like having dreads, we aren't all soaring eagle. I got the kids detangler stuff.
Thank you all. I understand everyone's feelings. I'm well into my pre-dreadies I've got goin on now and I do want to keep them for as long as possible. BUT I am a drama student and depending on what my future holds, I may need to be sans-dreads. I'm not planning for it. I'm scratching a wondering itch. I'm so glad I wouldn't have to shave my head - my hair grows so slowly. I love the shaved head look though. My girlfriend wears a shaved head and everyone flcks towards her in wonderment. Hmmmm what was it I was saying about not wanting to shave my head???? x
