Alright, I've been dealing with this issue for over 2 weeks now and I figured I'd try on here to see if anyone had anything similar happen to them and what they did about it. I've been wearing contacts for about 7 years now and never had a problem. This last pair of contacts I was wearing, I wore for a pretty long time without changing them and then finally did. When I put in my new pair of contacts, they were fine for a little while and then I noticed my right eye got extremely bloodshot. It didn't hurt or anything but it was just really, really red. So I took my contacts out and rested my eyes for a few days by wearing glasses. My eye cleared up so I tried my contacts again. The same thing happened. When I wear contacts, my right eye gets super red and it just looks really really bad. I'm wondering if maybe I wore my old pair of contacts so long that I scratched my right eye and now it's infected or something. It doesn't itch or really hurt or anything. It just looks bad and I'm getting tired of wearing my glasses. I miss my contacts. Does anyone here know what's going on? I'm getting desperate. I have no insurance and I'm broke, so I can't just up and see a doctor right now. I even tried changing my contact solution brand to see if that would help, but I haven't tried it yet because I'm afraid my eye will just get red again. To make matters worse, I'm a bridesmaid in a wedding in about 3 weeks and it'll be crap if I have a bloodshot eye in all of my cousin's photos--haha. Can anyone please help?!
Try your local health dept. If nothing else, they can point you in the right direction. I'd do it soon too. You don't want to mess around with your eyes. x
I wear contacts and the same thing happened to me.. for me, it was because i would forget to blink and then the contact got really dry and i rubbed it..
ive never had to wear contacts, but some of my friends do and theyve had the same problem you have before... the best thing you can do is just make sure when you do wear contacts, to take them out and keep em clean regularly. what prolly happened is you just left your old ones in too long and got an infection or something. just try to save up money man and hopefully you can go to the doctor soon... thats prolly your best bet. goodluck though.... hopefully someone will have a better anwser for yah. =)
Thanks everyone that answered! Yeah, I don't know what's going on. It's just really frustrating right now. I don't get how I've been fine for all these years and all of a sudden, this happened. I know I wore my old pair of contacts way too long, but it's only because I don't have money for new ones and I was trying to stretch out their use. But of course, now, I don't have the money to fix the problem I caused by being too cheap--haha. Ugh. If anyone else has any ideas or any over-the-counter remedies they can think of, I'd really appreciate it. I just want to feel like myself again... (And, off topic, @ jaredfelix: Bill Hicks is the man. Nice sig.)
I almost wish I had pink eye, that way I could at least know what's wrong so that I could fix it. But I'm pretty sure it's not pink eye. It's not itchy or oozy or anything like that. It's just bloodshot. And it's been going on for about 3 weeks...*sigh*.....
OH! I just found out that I don't have pink after all, but subconjunctival haemorrhaging and it comes from many different causes like high blood pressure. check it out on wikipedia
Kinda a late response here but I used to have the same thing happen to me. The eye doc had told me that because I wore the contacts for so long it kinda adhered to my eye and when I took them out it pulled a small layer of my eye with it. My eye did eventually heal but it did take awhile. Kinda gross but it does seem to happen very often, especially with these contacts nowadays you can leave in for days at a time.
Thanks for all your responses. I finally decided I needed to get some money together and get myself to the doctor and he put me on topical steroids for my eyes (both were infected). Apparently, the contact solution I was using (Opti-Free) changed their formula recently and there have been all these cases of people having reactions in the last 6 months. My eye was pretty screwed up but after I'm done with this regimen, I should be alright. So, just a warning to anyone who uses Opti-Free: Don't!
