So living in Maine gives me very little access to other Hippies. Not only am I younger ( 17 years old), but I'm new to Hippy ( is it IE or Y at the end lol) "world". I care deeply for the enviroment, as well as the animals that live and share the earth with us, but what can i do to help? I'm one person, by myself, recycling, and activism, isn't going to do much to impact our current state of affairs. I understand the we are killing the earth and depleating our natural resources, and causing more harm than good with our ways of living. I've researched the Rainbow family, and THe Farm, and just general "hippies" but i keep finding negitive " thier lazy pot smokers and druggies" type sites. So my question is what can i do to help? How do I find like minded people around me? Where do I start, and most importantly, how do i embrace " love peace and harmony" in a world that is full of self absorbed, angery violent ,un caring people? Any advice, stories, sayings, basically anything you have to say would be very helpful.
    Thanks for your time,
    _ Joffree

Joffee. If we all just said well I'm only one person what can I do no one would do anything. Hang in there brother. Keep recycling do your part. Through activism you meet others like yourself. Yes some Hippies were lazy pot smokers. But you will find that in any group of people. One person does have an impact on the way thing's are. It's whether that impact is positive or negative is what's important. Make your impact be a positive one. Love peace and harmony come from within no one can teach them to you. You have to feel them. I think you do. And it's hippy with a Y. Keep the faith.

    Peace

Hippies were born as a response to things that had gone wrong with our government.

I think the core value of any "old" hippy is a great distaste for "the man" and his world.

Fight his wars, his taxes, his pollution, and his lies.

And love one another as you do. Hurt noone.

You can not be what we were, we were the First and that can only happen once.. we never asked, we just followed the calling in our Spirits.. we were the elected ones that came to fight the war on racisium, greed, intolerence, neglect, injustest, poverty and all the manmade hells we were force to live with..

We came with flowers in our hair, our colors flying and our Spirits flowing on the wind of change. Our eyes full of love seeking out likeminded ones to help us on our way to freedom.

We carried a swoard of truth and light as we soared through the universe charged with lightening that moved mountains and changed the minds of men. We open the door for the ones that needed excape from the torment of being controlled by the machine of the Illuminate', we broke the chains of slavery that bound us to convention, working for the Man like beasts of burden.

We followed our own path, we created our own destiny by breaking free and taking charge of our own lives, to live and raise our families as we saw what was good and right for them and ourselves. We did not care what the Jones's had, we did not want that kind of life, where everyone was the same, where everything matched and no one dared to be different or sing a different song, where Money was what was more important then the planet we lived on.

There were a lot of posers back in the day, they just wanted to be on the bus bc it was cool and thought that it was about getting fuckedup and having sex with any and every chick they could ( there were some exceptions).. they took the dropping out part to a place it didn't belong and changed the outcome. When you compleatly dropout, your of no use to anyone, not even yourself.

I think LSD-25 had a lot to do with it. I think it was just meant for the Light Workers, to keep them in tune with what the purpose of their being was, but it got outta hand, it was tampered with. Ppl started freekin' out taking in babble and becoming bazaar in their thinking and behavior.

After The Ten Year War with the Man and our bodies, minds and spirits were battered and bloodied we moved away from the cities and found refuge in the country, where ppl were not so judgemental and baised their opinions on how you represented yourself and not the kinda clothes you wore or what kind of car you drove, or how fancy your home was. It was what you gave from your heart, having genuine carring for your neighbor.

We want to live in peace, we strive for peacefullness but sometimes your gotta fight for what's right, we can't go backwards, we have to stand our ground. We , the ones that are left from that war will never relinquish what we have earned, our right of passage.

Smoking pot is medicine and as any medicine you only need what you need, overindulgence in any medication is not good for ones body, mind or spirit. Wasting time is not good and gets nothing acomplished.

I hear this same question asked over n over.. you are what you are.. if you don't like who you are change what you don't like about yourself and you will feel more comfortable in your own skin and not wonder who you are.. you are you. Live how you want to have your life be like, regardless of what others think.. they are not you and have their own rows to hoe.

    Bright Blessings on your journey

    Shameless -
I think our minds work alike. I dont remember what we called those wannabees ,poser although a good word is a new one. I think that younger people today would have a difficult time without the creature comforts that we grew up without. Hell I didnt even see a color TV until about 1970. Too many called themselves "hippies" just for the drugs, sex & rock and roll- Its an ideology of peace, love, sharing, and acceptance- mixed with a touch of activism.
We made sacrifices to reap the rewards- which were mostly spiritual,I think that is something the "posers"dont get

    peace/love & granola

We're the same age Jack, and most likely experience a lot of the same things @ the same time.

I agree that we were/are searching for something on more of a spiritual nature than the youth of today.. I see little spiritulisum, but a lot of heavy drug use with no direction in these times.

I see consumerisum fighting harder to enslave us. The Universe is off kilter, with the negitive aspects outweighing the positive, creating an inbalance in our nature to bring about positivity and drawing it into our lives.

Joffree, keep on doing/thinking positive, keep things around you that you love, seek out ones that are carring and are doing like you are with the recycling and like Silver said, get active, go to a collage and look at the bulleten board in the student llounge and join a group that holds your same intrests. There are other places to look also.. maybe the library.

Just be true to yourself and do not compremise your integrity. Your inside core will tell you when things are right for you to move/act.

    Bright Blessings on your journey

If you can come in here and express yourself in a cool manner then I see no problem for you in making friends.. being cool is not about staying fuckedup, it's ok in moderation but not as a lifestyle. I mean you have to be a productive human being to sustain yourself, otherwise your an energy ripoff and someone else has to take up your slack.. we all need a little help from our friends once in a while and we rally, happily and willingly to aid and assist.

We will help carry a brother/sister's burden but only for so long, as we have our own burdens to carry as well. It does not help the growth of a slacker if you enable them to slack. We must encourage them to take charge of their own choices and choose their burdens wisely.
