Need Beer Ideas

I'm gonna get a six pack tonight just to chill and get buzzed with a friend, and I'd like some suggestions on what to get.

I have a 12 dollar limit, so nothing too expensive, but I want something better than MGD and Ice House. No Steel Reserve either.

I'd like to broaden my horizons.

Someone please school me in the way of the beer.

She's in Chicago so some of these beers wont be available. Like the Black & Tan, one of my favorites.
Id say go for Bass Ale

 

What micro breweries are in your area?

If you're in Chicago, buy a beer that folks in California have never heard of.
If you're in Calif., do it verse-vice-a.

 

I'll be drinking some Guinness tonight.

You can never go wrong with Guinness.

 

I've been drinking a lot of Sierra Nevada and I'm starting to get sick of it.

 

It's hard to recommend beer if I don't know what you like.

If you're looking for something that is accessible and readily available, maybe pick up some Hoegaarden, Bass Ale, Magic Hat (#9, Circus Boy, Hocus Pocus), Sierra Nevada Pale Ale, or Anchor Steam.

Stay away from overpriced, mass-produced lagers like Heineken, Becks, Corona, etc.

 

You want to get schooled in the way of beer? You take that twelve and buy a couple OE, pocket the change, get drunk as fuck, and then do it again tomorrow.

 

Oh man, Anchor Steam on tap... that's some good stuff.

 

i think new belgiums latest seasonal is freaking awesome. at least, dave says so. i haven't tried it yet, but he actually made a point of bringing it up, which is rare. arrow something.

 

mighty arrow. named for the doggy mascot of the brewery, Arrow.

 

Mighty Arrow. That will be my next keg. Damn fine beer indeed.

 

The beauty is that it's not seasonal but I'm afraid it might just be a market test beer. I do love me some Mighty Arrow though. New Belgium is hands down the best damn beer.

 

Ballantine Ale if you can find it. Mighty tasty brew even if it is cheap and bottled in Ft. Wayne!
