To me they're two totally separate things (I mean, take a minute to compare the Beatles to Journey, Steely Dan to Hendrix) that people tend to lump into one category. What do you think? Now don't get mad at me, yes, I am completely infatuated with this kind of music and rarely stop talking about it and, yes, depending on the person it can be extremely annoying, no need to tell me something I already know ^^ But seriously...
Cheers! I too am infatuated with the same kind of music. I think that the classic rock label is a general term. I dont know when a certain song or group is dubbed "classic". 20 years +? 25+? That's all the "classic rock" lable tells me is around about when the song/group would have been active.
Yay!!! I agree. I'm a sucker for electric Dylan. I could listen to Subterranean Homesick Blues 15 times in a row simply because it's Subterranean Homesick Blues, and it's AWESOME! I'm not gonna say nobody gets it, because somewhere in the world someone else is doing the exact same thing, but I guess I just wish more people shared my enthusiasm. Any particular artists that really do it for you?
I was referring more to Dylan's electric music as part of the bigger picture (that is, 1960s rock and roll), but I figured he was still pretty popular.
I don't use the term classic rock at all, it's pretty useless and doesn't tell me anything when someone uses it to describe something.. I love lots of stuff called classic rock, but far from all. Pretty logical of course, it isn't a genre, the term contains lots of genres.
Hendrix and Jefferson Airplane......a lot of groups do it for me, but when it comes to these two here.....cant really explain, but you know what Im talking about!
Two of my favourites for sure as well! And lately East-west of the Paul Butterfield Blues band really gets me going. Oh man, that titlesong And when I listened to it I automatically put some of the Airplane songs with the coolest guitarstuff on as well.
Quicksilver Messenger Service! I guess psychedelic blues rock really is the greatest 'subgenre' for me among all those sounds that's called classic rock.
oooohhh......i freaking LOOOOOOVE quicksilver. Definately up there with the airplane and hendrix.....a psychedelic triumvrate, if you will.....better yet, trifecta!!
rock has evolved slowly to meet the times man. Once there were more cats who enjoyed the older rock like before the 70's an now people like harder or louder things as well.
There's just as much anger as there was 40 years ago, it's just that it's now more socially acceptable.
True. Good point man. But all music must evolve. it has always echoed the emotions of the masses. Thats what makes it beautiful
I don't think human emotions ever change, the basic messages in music is still the same, it just has a different vehicle. Some people can't seem to deal with that.
I wasn't neccesarily referring to a change in emotions. Its just that certain emotions tend to come out more loudly in newer music than in older. And why shouldn't it man? I mean if we can express ourselves thru music then we sure as hell should
