Ive been living with my family and my life has gone nowhere. I dropped out of school a while back and i Don't work right now.

I think i have a radical view of what the world should be like.. but i cant practice it in the environment i live in.

I want to travel and get away from this place.
i guess im asking if theres anything out there for me. Im trying to make some kind of plan. Any help would be appreciated thanks

I suppose it all depends on WHAT kind of a community you're looking for, since there is quite a range in them. Finding a community first involves LOOKING for one, and that often means more than posting on a forum and asking someone else to find one for you. That's why I asked what the Brother's story is, since who you are and what you're looking for are PRIMARY in what kind of community you want to find.

I started a long time ago looking for communities, and found the Rainbow Family, which has most of the ideals that I look for in community. Many go to Gatherings looking for community in their lives, and I have this sense of it like a proofing ground.

There are certain lessons that we need to learn in our lives in order to function in community! A certain maturity and responsibility that is required, and I find that most young people who say they want to live in community haven't learned. I learned this at Rainbow (eventually!) as the necessity, the importance, the sheer joy of really plugging in and working hard, becoming part of a kitchen, really owning it and FOCALIZING! Learning how to step into that leadership roll and become a personally empowered and motivated individual who knows what they want to do AND DOES IT.

I live on a forming community, and I want it to grow, and have invited many. I balance that desire with an understanding that many there already, and many in forums like this are the products of our generation, are people that WAIT TO BE TOLD WHAT TO DO, and until that point, pretty much do nothing.

mayos212, what do you do with your time since you live at home and don't work? Are you constructively engaged in ANYTHING? If you want to travel, go fucking travel, I did it at 18 with nothing but a backpack and anyone can too. If you want to live in a community, look at YOURSELF closely and honestly, and ask yourself if you're ready for commitment and responsibility and to STEP UP.

    ARGH!

alibiasello, you say you "can't find a commune like this either", what kind of commune are you looking for? gnome89 says it's "hard to find one" and I'd like to ask both of you sisters how you've looked? Those lists, have you visited any, or just decided that they weren't for you?

I hope you'll all pardon my current frustration with this mentality, the mentality I've seen talked about before, of saying you want something, but not manifesting it, of waiting for someone else to do it for you.

Please, tell me I'm wrong, Sisters, tell me this isn't what you're doing, that you're taking real responsibility. I can understand that we've all grown up in this paradigm, our motivation and empowerment poised by a school system designed to train out of us all self-initiative. Intentional Community is the process of moving beyond that.

    Love and Light,
    Joshua

    alibiasello:

None of us could survive without the others. Whether you are depending on the local or world economies, or on your family or tribe, we all need humans to survive with. I don't quite get your reference to my posts, since they don't seem to refer to what I said.

I was a hippie on the road with a backpack for years, actively "looking" for community in my life. I found Rainbow, and fell in with some others and we formed a tribe and started a community. My point was that living in community requires PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY.

Ran across this thread as i've been searching for people interested in joining our intentional community. We have a 30 acre farm 1 hour southwest of St. Louis Mo. Half woods, half pasture with 2 springs that feed a year round creek. The land is privately owned and paid off. There is no monthly rent or fee to live here but we do require work in exchange. Hopefully we will attract people who are motivated to help with the organic farm we are putting in. There is a huge and growing market in the St. Louis area for organic produce to sell at farmers markets, nice restaurants and families. All profit from organic produce will be evenly split after common expenses. We are interested in people who like to work and play. No rules against alcohol etc...but anyone who cant party and be kind or who parties all the time will be asked to leave. There is a 3000sq ft. house currently being built, it's a bit rough now but could be livable in several weeks. Very nice home. Several things are really important to us....music, friends, good vibes, hard work, education (personal, not neccesarily formal) honorable behavior, open mindedness etc.....I could write a lot more but if your interested please contact me at carbonjon@yahoo.com carbonjon on yim or just give me a call 314-609-4172
We seek a community that will strive for complete self sufficiency so we are not slaves to the system. :)
