Does anybody know of any examples of communes (or related alternative living situations) in the world that have a musical focus? It might sound strange, but I just thought of it and became curious. Have there ever been any musically-focused communes/travelling communities/monasteries/etc. where musicians come together to live, obviously still having to function as other communities do, but with music being a primary focus and musicians making up many of the people there, musicians of every kind, anybody being welcome? Or is this a daft idea? I reckon it'd be cool, to have a community where everybody is playing music individually and together, not for any sort of commercial success but merely because it's what they do...! :D:D

sounds just like the commune that used to be up the road here years ago ...they supported themselves by putting up a couple of folk music festivals a year

Nomads ride horses ,Brazil I believe . I met some of them in southern Mexico, Kareene Kohn organized galactic rainbow. Fire and poi spinning, dancing and music. They would put on shows at local villages for food and money.
