Hello all.
I recently sat down w/ my sig-o and we backcombed my head using LockPeppa from Dreadheadhq, and rubberbanded the tips.

Now, about everything I just said is the opposite of the advice I've been reading on these forums! Too bad I didn't find this MB before going through all of this... :)

I love my backcombs/babylocks and I'm excited to spend the next years seeing them mature into full blown dreadlocks. But I have a few concerns at this point....

Over the days my fiancé spent backcombing, it seems each day she had a different technique she found on the internet. I thought this was awesome because then they would grow and mature in different styles and ways. But one of her techniques worries me now after a week.

One system, she was putting a braid in at the root, before back combing. I didn't know this at the time. But after realizing it, it put some concerns in my mind....

The braids have since shifted down the locks and tightened the backcombing. But this has left the roots rather... straight and untangled. Is this going to prevent the locks from forming? I'm worried the braid will hold the hair sraight and prevent the roots from staying locked up.

Any words of advice, or knowledge on this? The rest of them look great, but these ones are gonna break my heart if i'm going to have to cut or de-backcomb them....

Thanks everyone!
They're all natural from here on out! Don't *you* worry! :)

Much Love

hmm i don't see why you'd have to cut them off for any reason. try using locking accelerator and do a lot of clockwise rubbing at the roots if you're worried. just go with it and see what happens :)

post pics!

I read somewhere of a guy's experience - he'd had dreads several times but the best time was when he got his whole head braided and just left it. TBH I think it'll be fine. All mine are a mix of styles, backcombing etc. I'd say don't worry, just let them be and come back to it in a few months if it actually becomes a problem.

They're a bit fuzzy, but i have the straightest hair on earth so, it's expected. But wax free (except 3 at the base of my neck, before i was like, "yeah... no thanks," to that!)

are there rubberbands in those if so get them out
the braids wont matter tyhey will lock,
most dreads have some undreadeed hair near the roots thats normalk..as it grows it dreads

wouldnt use the accelerator or lock p[eppa crap just use sea salt water

ive alspo heard of ppl starting theyre dreads by making braids tying a knot in the end to hold em in then just lettin em lock from there

i would suggest gettiun the wax out oif the 2 in the back..its nasty shit and very hard to remove

other then that looks like a good start now just let em do what they do
