One of my favorite films of all time. Not many people your age can get into silent films. thats god to see. german "expressionism" was very interesting.:sunglasse I also recommen the Herzog '79 remake, which is completely different, so not to compare the two. As ive seen Murnau's version much more, I enjoy the '79 remake a bit better at the moment. Heres a few more silent horror films tocheck out. Faust (1929) (also by murnau) The Golem (1920) Phantom of the Opera (1925/29) american Dr. Jekyll and Hr. Hyde (1920) american Fall of the house of Usher (havent seen it, but its supposed to be good) french Cabinet of Dr. Carligari (1919) (my favorite silent film probably) waxwork (another I havent seen but is supposed to be good as well)
i bought the dvd a couple of months ago without having seen the movie (but i knew that it was silent and that it was a milestone in movie history) but when i watched it i instantly loved it. Max Shreck is really great as Nosferatu, and I find it even scarier than most horror films of today. I would love to see some other silent movies, but (apart from the chaplin movies) my library doesn't have any, and neither have the shops. I would love to see the first frankenstein movie from 1910!
thank you so much for the list!! i will check those out. i have the cabinet of dr. caligari also. that one is great!! i havent finished watching it yet though. thanks again!
definetely check out Metropolis.... i think it was the first science fiction film ever made. Also have you seen Shadow of the Vampire? its a movie about the making of Nosferatu... kinda strange!
i've seen shadow of the vampire, i thought it was pretty boring. but that's probably because i watched it before nosferatu.
I liked shadow of the vampire, but i dont think its great or anything. Malkovich did a very good job as Murnau though. Defoe was also very good. It was an interesting idea. If you think thats boring youll definatly think Herzogs nosferatu remake is boring.. I think its one of the most beautiful horror films ive seen. and Kinski easily stands up to Shrek as Dracula. The film has some very heavy atmosphere and great locations. and all the actings superb as well. but, if you dont understand how foreign films work, youll find it slow and boring. BUt to me, sometimes slow can be good.
I watched shadow of the vampire before nosferatu, i think i was in 6th grade, and i loved it. and nosferatu is a classic, i saw it, it was streamed for free from some site.
I have seen most of the movies listed, and they are all truly magnificent to watch.I will start a thread, and include a few links, where you can view the out of copyright free to view movies sometime soon.that's if links are allowed in threads.
sinister.sends shivers down my back.the tint in the film or something.imagine going downtown and seeing it when it was playing at the theatre?
Yes!! This film is in my top 10 favorites, along with the last man on earth, if any of you have seen it.
