so my sister brought a stray cat home the other night. she is very, very friendly, a beautiful gray striped and spotted coat, but is extremely skinny and malnourished. fortunately, my parents had some sympathy and allowed us to keep her, but she is seperated from our other animals until we can get her to the vet tomorrow. also, i am relatively certain that she is pregnant. i'm not entirely sure since all of our cats have been fixed, but her kitty kat nipples are all prominant, and her belly is kinda lumpy (for lack of a better term). not to be weird, or gross or anything like that (i'm just genuinely concerned about her health) she has an awkward "feminine issue," in which there is kind of a leaking problem, not to elaborate, but it isn't urine and it's not coming from her butt. anyway, awkward descriptions aside, does anyone have any experience with pregnant cats? i'm also concerned because since she is so small and young (she can't be more than 6 months) and skinney, if she will be able to carry a litter of kittens. i'm so afraid that she is gonna have some horrible illness, and we won't be able to keep her... i won't find out until tomorrow, when we take her to the vet. she's too sweet to have anything wrong with her!
awww poor kitty! i am always a sucker for taking in cats and other animals. i have no experience with pregnant cats, i would just say wait until you take it to the vet to find out what is wrong w/ it and what not.
yeah, i'm always the one who wants to keep every animal who needs a home. it'll be so exciting to be around a litter of kittens....assuming everything is ok...i'm nervous!
usually i'm more of a dog person, but this cat is the most affectionate cat you've ever met. i'll give an update tomorrow...
Aw! That's so cool your parents let you keep it! If the cat is bleeding from the vagina and is pregnant....well that's not a good sign..... Hopefully she's alright. What a plus a litter of kittens would be =)
geee. thanks for your help. i guess i should have specified more...she isn't bleeding, it's more of a white discharge...which i thought would also be a pregnancy sign, since it's directly focused around that area. also, her health has been improving since we got her. we got her on saturday, and she was really horribly gaunt and pathetic looking. now she seems to be plumping up a little bit, and looking more healthy. probably because she's actually getting enough food. i don't think she's dying, but i do think that it's worth taking her to the vet.
to begin with: the size of a cat is deceptive. we found what we thought was a kitten, it was 3 years old! the vet can tell you how old she is. give her good food, with lots of nutrients. no milk though, its bad for kitties. definately worth taking her to the vet. get her some soft food too, and switch between hard and soft too. the discharge i dont know about, the vet can tell you. good luck.
we found my cat cocoa in the creek and she was really malnourished and had fleas and all these things wrong with her. my mom said we could keep her but we had to keep her in a cage outside until she got to the vet. now shes all fat and happy
awww she's so pretty! and to mother's love: that's pretty much exactly what we've been doing lol. she eats so much, it's really ridicuolous, because from just looking at her, it's hard to imagine where she puts it (but if there is kittens, then that's where it's goin!) i can't wait till 4:30...that's when i'll know the verdict!
the last kitten i had was an orphaned stray she was probably like 3-4 weeks super small, covered in fleas when we washed her the first time and then dried her the towel was orange from the blood but we kept her in a big enough box in my room (b/c no one else wanted her (we already had 3 other cats) or to deal with her, and i didn't want her to poop in my floor) fed her milk and soft cat food mixed up (some kind of catmilk in a can) before i knew it she had a pudgy belly and was chasing rivers (a giant, fat cat) around the apartment unfortunately i lost both Madison (the kitten) and Rivers in the break up i knew i'd lose rivers, but i was hopin' i coulda kept madison
so i just got back from the vet, and he said that she is probably pregnant, or she has an infection that could be mimicking pregnancy. they're gonna keep her overnight to test for feline leukemia, and if that's negative, they're gonna do some more tests. if she is pregnant, she isn't very far along, and they may just end up spaying her and clearing up any potential infections, because it would be better for her health. even though the thought of a kitty kat abortion makes me sad, we would in no way be able to keep the kittens, and in my opinion it's more important for her to be healthy. so, we won't know till tomorrow morning...
