hello im new here, ive had my dreads about a month now, i usually spend alot of time sewing lose hairs in everyday with a yarn needle, and i have quit using wax. can i use aloe vera to tame the hairs and make them look neater for when i go out and stuff, just so i wont get stared at so much. and can i use the stuff in the bottle thats green that you put on for sunburns and such, or does it have to be the straight up plant itself? thanx for any help

1 YES YOU CAN USE STRTAIGHT ALOE MAKE SURE ITS 100% PURE ALOE GELL; AND NOTHING ADDED

    2 stop sewing your dreads

3 if u used wax get it all out thats not easy to do, wax is very hard to remove u need very hot water and a ton of scrubbing

    and
4 who cares if u get stared at..dont be so sensative ..if u got dreads ppl will stare no matter how neat ya make em or how wild they are..
get used to it and dont worry about every lil hair

no. that stuff is probably 5% aloe at the most. It needs to say that about 99%+ pure aloe and be refrigerated. I use the stuff by Lily of the Desert if that helps.

and p.s. get used to the stares. There's no amount of maintenance you could ever do to eliminate looks from other people.

just to let you know, people are always going to stare at you for as long as you have dreadlocks. just get used to it. it's not a bad thing, it's just because most people don't see them everyday.

I'm really debating with myself about the whole aloe thing right now. I would love to use it to make my dreads look a bit more presentable, particularly when I go to my grandparents' 60th anniversary party. I know aloe is a moisturizer, but apparently a non-oily moisturizer. Basically what I'm wondering is, can the moisturizing properties of aloe hinder the locking process? If so, I'll probably wait until my dreads are somewhat mature to try to use it.

Dont worry so much dude...its all good. If you feel you have to make you're "dreads" presentable, then you shouldnt have them anyhow. Having dreadlocks are integral to going against the grain of our modern society, im sure you're grandparents will love you the same even if you're dreads are frizzy or not..:sifone:

ok guys im not THAT worried about getting stared at or your right i wouldnt have dont the dreads in the first place. i was referring to more of occasions like "dinner with the inlaws" or holidays with my husbands chatholic italian family. heh thanxs for the input thought. i really like the feel of having hair like a zen garden and its hard for me to keep my hands out of it. i just recently quit the wax and the dreadhead shampoo is awful and makes me really itchy so im gunna quit that as soon as i get something else..... where can i by these wonderful all aloe products?

lol...I feel the same way with my hair. I love playing around and "pruning" my dreads.

to answer your question... you can find the aloe in a natural food store - usually in the supplement section. I've even seen it at regular grocery stores.

You can buy aloe in the health FOOD store, it's a health food.......Lilly of the Desert is wonderful, keep it refrigerated ,use it sparingly....not only does it tame frizzies and condition your locs, it's an anti-fungal which is pretty fantastic for dreads!
Relax a bit ,and ENJOY your dreaddy journey sistah!
