Today is the eve of the opening ceremonies in Beijing. as most know, though do not understand to what extent, China is commtting numerous acts of human rights violations both in China, Turkistan, Tibet, and through funding even Darfur. The Tibetan community, as it approaches its 50th year in exile, is hoping the Olympics will shed night on these violations, while China hopes to show itself and present itself as a global leader. This campaign is simple, it asks that you light a candle/candles/candleer and put them in your window. A press release for the campaign states, "'We hope your Candle for Tibet campaign will inspire the Chinese authorities to appreciate the value of freedom of all mankind and the importance of the Tibetan Buddhist culture that is benefiting millions of people and has the potential to serve humanity as a whole, including the Chinese people,' said Tsering Tashi representative of HH the Dalai Lama. " What will make the campaign more effective is pictures from all over the world and country. Local groups at my college are asking people to take pictures and send them to my friend of mine who will post them to show the recognition in our area. In an attempt to make the campaign a bit more widespread in the US, perhaps internationally as well, what I would love everyone to do, if you feel so inclined to celebrate freedom and proper human rights, by particiapting and ligihting candles/candleers and take a pitcture of your house/apartment/condo/you holding a candle etc... I don't need any information, but a picture, although a location whethere (city and/or state) would be greatly appreciated! I promise that is all I will use the picture for, solely for the campaign. I would take a picture but sadly my camera broke just recently but I'll still light a candle in my window and I'll try to get some friends to take some pictures of candles in their window and if I can do it I'll give you their pictures
I love that you would do it, even if you dont have a camera! If a neighbor or a friend has one perhaps they could snap a photo for you....but nonetheless thank you!!! And yes please spread the word!!!
