In the tradition of the "dolphin safe" campaign, restaurants and seafood outlets are being asked to join in the "seal safe" movement. While of course it would better for the stores and restaurants to cease serving meat altogether, that isn't very realistic. In the meantime, they can strive to at least be more conscious of wildlife. You can ask restaurants, delis, stores, and seafood shops to sign up for the seal safe pledge and display the campaign symbol for customers. http://www.seashepherd.org/seals/seals_approval.html
I am a member of Sea Shepherd Conservation Society. I do not believe that boycotting all Canadian seafood is in order. Let's boycott seal products. Seals and other mammals have advanced nervous systems, and awareness, similar to ours. Lobsters and cod do not. The message I would send is that killing seals is not okay, but that traditional fishing is acceptable provided sustainable yields are enforced.
