I took a long (More than a few mile) long walk today, in pretty hot weather. This is my first time walking very long distances over concrete/heat before. The problem came when my feet began blistering up - I have multiple blisters on my feet that are very painful. They are full of liquid and, like I said, very painful. Not walking isn't an option for treatment, and neither is draining them - I am active in outdoor theatre, which makes draining a bad idea (they'd get infected) and not walking impossible. Are there any remedies that are reasonable? I thought about dipping my feet in some very strong green tea, but I don't know what that would do. EDIT: I will also be trailhiking (or whatever it's called) this upcoming week, so a quick treatment is preferable.
I always soak my feet in salt water to cure foot infections/blisters and they usually feel better the next day. So I suggest doing that for an hour or so while you're reading a book or something. Good luck
Johnson's Foot Soap might work. It's a soak that eats dead, excess skin away and most likely will eat the blisters away.
Well, I did the salt soak last night - I heated some water up and stirred in the salt. It felt VERY hot more so than regular warm water. It was good for finding out which blisters had already been popped (thankfully only one).. but it didn't do much for getting rid of them. Should it be a regular event? Oh, and I'm reluctant to use soap - I'd like to keep my callouses, and from my experience using soap makes the skin soften and then "split" into small peels of dead skin (like a cheese grater had rubbed over them).
It does soften the skin, and might ruin your callouses, so soap might not be the best option. Maybe you should use a pumice stone around the blisters after the salt soak..other than that I have no idea.
Wow, sorry to go off topic, but another North Dakota barefooter? Do you live in Bismarck by any chance?
Holy crap, yes I do! Add me on msn (xxxskaterxxx@hotmail.com) and we can organise a get together for this weekend or summat - do you go to BHS? :cheers2: And thanks for the replies, guys - but in the time it took me to try the solutions, the liquid in the blisters reabsorbed into the tissue, and one of them has already dried up like a rock-hard callouse.
I dunno about a get together any time in the near future... I don't know how I'd explain it to my parents. Plus, I've been out of the habit lately. I'll add you, though. I go to CHS, by the way. EDIT: What grade are you in?
Doesn't have to be a big organized get-together that would attract unfavorable parental attention. Young folks have found ways to get together since like forever. The reason (barefooting) need not be known, and indeed barefooting need not be the only reason, even if it is known! If that makes sense. Anyway, I cherish my friendships from that time of my life. It's been awhile, I'm afraid. But it's all good stuff. And I'll never forget.
