It's crazy, I was just in LA recently, and I found it ridiculous/funny how many drug ads there were on TV, and the content of them. You're advertising all these random drugs I didn't even know existed, like some drug that relaxes your leg muscles to help you sleep better (warning, may cause nausea and other harmful side effects).

It's just praying on people who suffer from psychosomaticism, watching some of the ads, I found myself almost thinking I could have the symptoms they described. And why are there so many drug stores, they're like on every street corner.

Very true.Prescription drug adverts were banned in the US up until the late 1990s.Regular mainstream US tv has become literally 'unviewable, its all commercials, and many are from the pharma companies. It actually effects the world, because these companies spend SO much more on adverts than research and development.100s of BILLIONS of dollars a year, just for advertising. What breakthrough drugs have these companies actually come out with lately?NONE.--Countries like Australia, those in Western Europe etc. all ban these commercials. The US is pathetic in this and many other areas.Only In America, right.

This is why teenagers now have Pharm Parties... they know what drugs to look for just by watching TV.

The simple solution to this problem is to ban drug commercials again AND regulate how many commercials can be shown. The US government used to do these things. Now any type of vermin can advertise on US tv,drug companies, insurance companies etc. etc. etc.Strong and 'proper regulations are very important and make everything a whole lot better. This may be a coincidence but I hardly saw any prescription drug adverts before Bush+Cheney got in office.....maybe its not coincidence.

I saw an interview with a guy who wrote a book on this general topic, called "Comfortably Numb." He said that most psychiatric meds are now prescribed by family doctors, general practitioners, and internists. Actual psychiatrists prescribe less than half, he claimed.

How about instead of imposing new rules on our country, just stop watching TV? If you sit in front of the television long enough to know most of these commercials by heart, don't complain. Just avoid the source of the commercials. TV numbs our souls, anyway.
But aside from that, yes, the pharmaceutical companies will take over the world one day. Most drugs they sell today are sh*tty and are only there for profit. If the back of the bottle says, *WARNING - May cause sudden death.*, you probably won't want to use it.

^^^I do not view mainstream American television anymore for 2 reasons the pure junk thats shown now,and the outrageous amount of advertising.I have not seen a commercial in months.I only view stations without commercials, like turner classics. It is unfortunate though because mainstream American television used to be so good.

If you don't watch TV, then you don't have to worry about banning any commercials.

Yeah beacuse all teenagers are chemheads.

None of my friends do "pharms" we do smoke pot and drink however, There is a group of kids at my school that do shit like oxy's and stuff but there losers.

Most of us are smart enough not to be popping random pills to catch a buzz.

I'm against recreational drug use, except weed for people that enjoy it.BUT,Americas "real drug" problem has become the Pharmaceutical Industry. And its not only their constant advertsing that is the problem, its alot more.Bravo to the EU for banning drug commercials, and taking a harder stand against those lying criminals.

Its weird, in the last year or so I've become really health-conscious. I try to avoid all drugs if possible, except for NyQuil for falling asleep if I'm really sick. I started just fighting colds on my own rather than go to the doctor, as long as they're not severe.

People in the US to me just seem so friggin lazy. If you've got a problem, you don't have to solve it. Now there's a pill that will solve it for you! Screw that.

I was in a hotel the other week and watching the cable T.V. and most the commercials were prescription drugs. It was crazy.

    It is a multi billion-dollar business…

People are unhappy with society give them drugs, people are unhealthy give them drugs, Your kids won’t listen to you give them drugs.

They make a pill for 13 cents sell it for $3.56 x millions a day and it is money over and over.

Other people watch TV. I'd hope he was not just thinking of himself.

It's funny in Canada because drugs can't be advertised but since close to half the channels on cable or satellite are from the US they are still being shown on Canadian televisions across the country. Just not on channels that are being broadcast from Canada.

What really amuses/perplexes me is when I see a ad for a perscription drug, then a while later; an ad for the partnership for a drug free america

Some where along the line we lost control of this Country.
This country is currently being run by a very small elistist group of the most vile and greedy people you can imagine.
But simply said they get away with the bullshit they do because we allow it to happen.
If even 5% of americans stated that enough is enough and decided to take action against these individuals and corrupt methods of running our Governmentl; America would not have 80% of the problems it does now.
I hope that one shining day that the government will be put into place for the good of the common American, and not merely the prosperity of a few select elitists.

well even if these ads were banned i doubt it would stop all these kids from going into their parents med cabinets and poppin whatever they think will fuck them up. as long as they keep making these pharmacuticals and have people addicted to them and make it easy to get, i dont think much will change. Its amazing how they advertise certain drugs and then one of the warnings or side effects is dependancy, wtf? and people will still take them and then they wonder why they can't kick the habit. I wish i could remember what drug ad that was.
