"Skid Mark" always sounded so innocuous to me

I'd read birth stories where the mom would say, "I didn't need stitches, just had a skid mark," and I didn't really know what that was but it sounded not so bad.

It's freaking road rash! It HURTS. I'm on day 5 post-partum and scared to pee. I've been trying to follow what I was told to do to speed healing -- 10-minute soaks in warm water twice a day, but also let it dry out (yeah I love sitting spread-eagle on the bed under the ceiling fan), take vitamin C, take it easy and rest (as if). I just thought it would be healing better by now. I had an episiotomy with DS and quite a few stitches, and honestly by day 3 it didn't bother me a bit.

Midwife also suggested shining a warm light on it. I'm going to ask DH to try to rig up something like that today.

wow. i had no idea. that sounds HORRIBLE. did the docks say you can use a&d ointment or 4F? it's what i used on my breasts for the HORRIFICLY painful nipples. it was wonderful and i got better so much faster.

    OUCH!

re peeing - have you tried pouring some water down there as you pee - have a jug ready next to the loo!....that should dilute the wee enough to stop it stinging....or weeing in the bath (which my mum did for a week or two after I was born due to her episiotomies from forceps).

    Hope it heals soon.

Witch hazel has been used for centuries to assist healing.

All I wound up with were skidmarks to and they gave me a little squirt bottle to use while I was peeing and it helped with the irritation I stayed away from tub baths because my midwife said it should help me heal a little faster and within 2-3 days I was skippy.. but I didnt have the episiotomy...

The word "skidmark" reminds me of dirty underwear...ewww

I have had both an episiotomy AND tearing experiences and let me tell you I'll take a cut any day. I couldn't let my husband hardly near me for almost a year after the tear...sex hurt so bad.
I don't know what to tell you...except hang in there. :)
