Well, I'm new to the forums, my name is Tyler, and I've been thinking about getting dreads, just not sure if anyone has any advice for me, or what. I'd like to atleast learn about the natural dreading process.(no backcombing, etc) My brother knows someone who can help my hair become dreads, and such, but from what I've seen on the site I hope she doesnt use wax.(I've read alot in the dreadlock forums.) Heres a picture of like my normal hair, it changes from day to day though, to be honest, but ya. Very wavy and curly, and like if I comb/brush it, it gets really puffy, and frizzy. http://i166.photobucket.com/albums/u82/Zakaryah11/ChadandI.jpg I'm on the left. Might not be that great of a picture, but its what I could get up right now. Also, if anyone has any questions, shoot. (why I want dreads, etc) Thank you,
Lol, ACTUALLY, my friend Chad, the one on the right didn't comb his hair for a LONG time, and like, his hair became dready, but altogether, and not like dreads. And I havent been combing for the past few days, and it seems its already in "locks". Some hair are sticking together, and then they also curl, and make a few loops sometimes. That picture was only like a month ago, as well, so my hair hasn't change much since then. Thanks for the response, oh, and I like your dreads, must've taken some time. I also read your story about putting the snakes in your hair, and how they would popout when talking to people. That was quite an amusing image.
yup. if you want to go natural, just wash every so often with a residue-free soap or baking soda, and don't comb or run your fingers through your hair. just remember it takes a lot of time and patience, but it will pay off in the end! good luck man.
My head is already so knotted, its only like the third day of no brushing/combing. I kinda like it, but right now its so disorderly(although it does seem to get better after waking up). What I'm worried about is if it becomes one huge dread, how do I keep it seperated and such?
rip em apart feel for where they wanna secrion and pull sections away from eachother the hairs connecting at the roopts will rip do it often especialy in ther beginning when they are formoi=ing they will wanna eat eachother..
Tell me about it, already all trying to eat eachother, is there really any general thing I should do, as in..keep it to atleast a certain size ?
I think I still gotta wait a bit,but im trying to seperate them as much as I can, really, and gonna stop washing/wetting them as much, its already in locks of curls everywhere, and only a few are trying to combine, I just was wondering I should let them since they're all small locks, or seperate them for now. But so far, thanks for all your help, I might just go naturally, to be honest.
dont separate that much at first they will be very small and will form everywhere on your head, you can let them congo but try to separate a bit, or separate the one you think they shouldnt come together (too far away or something)
Alright, thanks, that makes sense, what about the ones that are close and are congoing, should I just leave them, or do something to help them progress?
just let time help them haha, and if they are near eachother they were meant to form together and become bigger so its perfect, I got a lot of those little one going on.
I'm loving the natural route so far, not really locking up of course, but its grouping up into curls and such, and well I like how it looks right now, I think natural might really be great, I also want to see the full process, might learn from it I guess, eh?
the natural process is such an advenbture and without all the pain from backcombing your barely a week into it and seeing progress like that give it 3 more and i bet ya start finding dreads maybe not real tight or mature ones but dreads all the same
