living in a house full of die-hard republicans

not that i dont love them to death, but living in a huge family full of republicans
is pretty difficult when your the only democrat.

I have a huge Irish Catholic family (3 siblings, 13 aunts and uncles, and 33 cousins!). And as much as I love the Irish(and Ireland!), we Irish are quite a stubborn lot. My family is completely set in their backwards Irish Catholic ways. They just wont see reason.
One of the things i hate the most is their views on homosexuals. I'm not gay, but i completely and openly support homosexuals. Love is love, it knows no gender. How can it be wrong to love someone? One of my uncles came out about being gay, and my father is always cracking hurtful jokes behind his back. My brother also, always trying to preach about why being a homosexual is wrong. We get into huge debates about it, usually ending in a fight, with him completely ignoring my side of the argument. I don't understand it.
Another problem is religion. In their world, you are either Catholic, or you need to be converted to Catholicism. I dont have a religion. I mean, i beleive there is SOMETHING, but i dont have a set religion, and honestly, i think the world would be better off without religion. Religion is one of the major causes of war. and if you think about it, everyone is born without religion. Religion has to be TAUGHT to someone, its not an instinct. If someone hadnt created religion, we would all be athiests. of course, i beleive there is something more than just LIFE, but why devote your self to a whole religion that may not be true? of course, i'm getting off topic. While i think the world may be better off if religion wasnt such a huge factor, i think everyone has the right to practice their own religion. We should coexist with each other, not put each other down because we have different beliefs

Massachuctses is full of Irish Catholic Democrats.
President Clinton was an Irish Democrat President, In Ireland, they love Bill Clinton. I dont think that Republicans or Irish have a monoply on each other.

Hopefully The Family is able to laugh at itself like most Irish can.
Yr Father should be thankful for his brothers company here in this life on earth. Famlies get past way worse things than a gay sibling hopefully nobody is blowing this out of proportion.

^Try posting once with all of your ideas^. If you dont like Republicans, why are you a Democrat? As if there is some huge difference. Show them you're your own mind by abstaining from the two party system, and just decide for yourself. Id bet your family will respect that more than you trying to rebel by disagreeing.

If you dont like his gay jokes, make Catholic jokes to your dad, theres waaay more material there. I dont get how it is hurtful to make jokes behind someones back. If your offended by them, thats your problem. Your uncle should be comfortable enough with himself to take shit, I bet he can dish it out, too.

Make your family watch Dogma. I know its just an inflammatory comedy, but near the end there is a strong moral, that there is no right religion, God didnt force humans to worship him for a reason. Just believing in something is more than enough.
