For anybody that was around London during the late sixties could you possibly tell me how the hippie movement operated around that time? I'm writing a novella based on this setting and so far I haven't found too much info on the subject except for events such as the 'Coming Out Ball', Pirate Radio and some of the anti-war protests. I'd really apreciatte anybody's insight into the time and place, it doesn't even have to specifically be about hippies- just London. Please share any experiences, the feel of the time, the people (not nesscarily celebrities) that will help me to form an accurate understanding- because I want to do it justice . Thankyou so much to anybody who replies!
I'd like to help if I can. I arrived in the Great Wen on Jan 13, 1967 just as it was starting to shake off the control of the convential music industry. It could have gone the free/indi route but, alas, convenience & comfort will always appeal over principle and the effort required to forge ones own path. To get a feel for the times, you could do worse than read the Michael Moorcock "Jerry Cornelius" books & stories. He had a real affection for Notting Hill and Ladbroke Grove. Ernie
