After only two short I think I'm going to pull out my dreadlings. I'm not giving up entirely, but I think my hair is just too short to lock up properly, even with backcombing and rubber bands. At such short length they look kind of silly, and would take many months just to be tolerable, let alone full on dreads. I figure I'll hold off until my hair grows more. Most of them naturally fell out just from sleeping, save for a couple steadfast ones on the top of my head which look out of place on their own. I feel bad though, because it makes me look impatient. Truth is, I was impatient to try so early. My hair is barely 3-3.5" so. And they're fragile and weak enough that I can probably just pull them out without having to lose any hair in the process. Thank god I didn't use wax.

Anyone else ever deal with this, or have any helpful insight or advice before I go ahead with it?

takes time mate, I'm about 3 months in and started with the same length hair as you, its a case of 2 steps forward and 1 step back, it will happen though. Get yourself a good hat and live with it - the other option is to give up

You wouldn't happen to have a picture of your dreads would you? Could provide some much needed inspiration :/

my hair is only about 2inch long maybe 3 in parts but since i haven't brushed it for about two weeks i am getting curls popping up all around which i like allot - i'm just going to forget about my hair and just wash it in residue free shampoo and tea tree oils rinces which i like the smell of and just see where it takes me :)

Just try it matey - get a wool hat too.

Giving up isnt an option apollo, I started mine and wasnt even at 3 inches, with the natural way (residue free soap no backcomb) your hair already will start to knot at 2 or 3 inches, more then 3 it's good. It's a bit slower at first but I'm 2 months into it and it really does works.

I don't have pictures I can show you of mine but look at those video you'll see it's possible with short hair, and anyway they will grow!

    http://fr.youtube.com/watch?v=K0WBvRrHcnY 1 month
http://fr.youtube.com/watch?v=kodgiJedko0 12 months see? my hair wasnt that long when I started 2 months ago anyway and it works as good.

And shortyAH, your dreads are sick :D

dreads form knots together and congo (2 dreads becoming one exemple) or multiple dreads, that can make your scalp very painful so the best is to rip them appart, or separate if you prefer.

you can let them congo thats your choice but I would only let small dreads congo together, if I do let congo some big of mine I would watch closelly so it doesnt make any tension on my scalp or anything, that leads to bad problems and sometime cutting dreads off.

the main prob with huge congos is gettin the fingers to the scalp to keep the scalp clean..
to seperate em just pull em away from eachother and rip the hairs that connect em near the roots

    LONDON! Yeaaah Finally!

Keep pioneering Apollo - I was thinking earlier, I should just comb mine out but I really want them and more so I love this making myself go against the way I've been "made" to act. People around me either hate dreads and are like eeeew why you doing that, or if they're the ones I actually give a shit about, they love em, and are really encouraging, asking me how they're doing.... Although, as for the general public, people dont really care.
If you want it, do it! Keep going!
