Even though cannabis doesnt have the same direct chemical drive as other drugs in terms of creating habits, it still is a rather addictive substance that can be mediated with control. But a lot of people forget this bit. they just think in black and white, 'addictive' or 'not addictive'.

But no matter how you define addictive in that case, there will always be plenty of ppl addicted to things classed as non addictive and ppl not addicted but still taking things that are considered addictive.

But actually there are lots of different shades of addiction.

    Cannabis addiction is easily controlled.

but it takes mental effort to do this for most people.
so some people say they dont need the weed they just really want it and things suck without it. what a load of trollop. that is basically the definition of addiction, when you consider humans are motivated primarily away from what sucks and toward what they want.

people say its just like chocolate. well no its not just like chocolate, because chocolate does not get you high. some people say it does. but they are just getting high off their enjoyment of some sensation. anyway, chocolate ruins some peoples lives so i dont see how comparing it to chocolate makes it any different. if you saw some fat person eating chocolate saying 'im not addicted, i just like chocolate!' you would probably try to laugh away your disgust. We cant see inside our brains, but some people smoke a lot of weed. This changes the brain, because this means that there is a foreign chemical constantly circulating in the body (for heavy smokers), shifting the brain off balance.

if you smoke weed, you supply your whole brain with THC and all the appropriate receptors may bind to the cannabinoids coming from your bloodstream. All these receptors naturally have their own setup and their own supply of anandamide. but you just flood them all. thats what leads to the experience of being high.

when the high runs out, the system that is triggered normally by anandamide is going to be lacking metabolites in a magnitude that is spread across the board (because you administer the THC across the board), instead of in a specific organisation according to your learning patterns and sleep patterns etc.

This chemical hangover is real. it is not the same as that with nicotine or methamphetamine though. but it is real. and it can feel grumpy, frustrating, noisy, hungerless, compulsive, tiresome, boring, etc.

    I love smoking weed.

but its plainly obvious that some people smoke weed every day. me too. most people dont just live in a cannabis plantation so that means they have to go out and get the weed in order to smoke it. if someone is smoking weed every day then it means that: every day that they dont have weed, they go and get weed. more or less according to circumstance.

Whether being addicted to cannabis is a problem is a different thing to argue altogether

I agree, I think marijuana is quite difficult and even impossible to even LIMIT for some people. I myself am going through a tough time right now trying to cut back from a nightly habit.

I would probably say that I am addicted to weed, but I haven't not been high in long enough to know :D

When you have the means to be able to smoke everyday, and it hasn't negatively impacted your life yet, then why stop yourself from indulging.

I can say that pot is not addictive but I am addicted to pot. I have been able to cut back a lot lately and have even gone a few nights without smoking but I prefer to smoke when I can. I have been just way to busy to smoke. Work sucks like that. I average around 50 to 60 hours a week. I used to smoke almost every night but I just moved in with my girlfriend and she does not say I have to quit and she does smoke with me some times but she prefers that I do not smoke as much. So, I don't. It's all mental.

Definitely agree. It's psychologically addictive...which to me means that you will be impacted in a negative way psychologically when you stop smoking after smoking every day for a long time. You may not vomit or shake or have physical symptoms, but there will be psychological symptoms. Your psychological system is used to having weed impact it, and when it doesn't if has trouble adjusting.

It is easy to quit in some ways too. If you just set your mind to it and decide to do it, it's not as hard as with, for instance, cocaine or nicotine.

After smoking every day for almost 20yrs with very few breaks it was somewhat hard to stop the daily routine. I can, however, stop for a few days without a lot of trouble. Recently I've stopped for months, which was refreshing.

The thing I have most trouble with is limiting my use when I do have some. When I do get some, I just can't stop smoking for a day. I make excuses for myself and smoke it pretty much all the time when I have it.

So, it's either smoke daily or not at all for me, which kind of sucks. When I'm smoking I start to feel unhealthy after a few days...don't get as much exercise...eat too much...it slows me down a lot. I read so much more when I'm not smoking....I love that. When I smoke I can't usually read at all because it's hard to concentrate and I fall asleep.

BUT....that's not to say it isn't a great thing. Weed is a staple in some ways. I think for some reason I just got into this pattern where I stop for a few days, then binge for a few weeks, and repeat. I don't think it is that way for everyone.

I remember talking to a guy who went through AA to quit alcohol and telling him weed was different. I encouraged him to try it. He said they called it the "marijuana maintenance program" in AA when people quit alcohol by smoking weed. Sometimes I go on the "alcohol maintenance program" when I'm not smoking weed....so it makes me think I might as well smoke weed since it's healthier.

I guess I already had my life time limit on weed, and should really just give it up all together. I know I wouldn't regret it. There's nothing to regret about quiting.

Psychedelics are much more healthy and less likely to be addictive. I definitely think I'd be better off stopping weed completely and doing LSD/Mesc/DMT/Mushrooms once a month or so. Just writing this down makes me realize that should be my goal.

But...if someone offered me weed right now....I'd get some.

I have times where I smoke pot everyday for an entire month, and once my supply runs out I become a bit grumpy for about 1-3 days. After that time, I go back to my regular self and start going about my business as I normally would. Sometimes it takes me about a month before I can buy more weed, and in that time I don't feel that I NEED more weed but would admittedly would like to have some.

For example, when I wake up, the first thing on my mind isn't, "Sigh, I wish I had some weed to smoke". In fact, I can go for days without even thinking or craving it. When I DO think about weed, it is a fleeting thought. I think, "Man, I am in the mood to get stoned, wish I could... ah well" then I continue with my day.

I am not saying that weed is never, at least somewhat, addictive to some people, but I think that is mostly reserved to addictive personalities. I honestly don't see how this can be addictive to some people because I don't see it in me, but I do recognize that some do become addicted. I am just not sure it is for the reason that you suggest.

Meh, weed isn't really addictive for me. I haven't smoked in over a month, just because I haven't felt like it, and I've been feeling so great this whole summer.

i would say yes i am addicted to weed. i think the reason is though that i always had it. i sold it so i always had some. like one of you guys said, when i have weed i can't really go a day without smoking it. now that i have moved (no hookup) and quit selling, i barely smoke. right now i haven't smoked in five days, which is pretty good for a daily smoker of years and years.

so i'm addicted to weed...when i have it. i should just quit. ahh fuck that, i should just keep it like it is now. don't smoke unless it finds me. i don't think i'll ever fully quit.

I smoke for a week then stop a week usually (Not because i want to eather just because I have to save for more :p)
Weed for me is addictive I used to tell everyone its not but It actually is. If I have weed I cant not smoke. I smoke at night usually any where from 11pm- 1am thats th eonly time I have a chance besides if Im not at home. Ive noticed that when I have weed no matter what im doing when it gets close to that time I cant stop thinking about it, for the first 2 days that i dont have it I think about it but then after that i dont I just think of how to much i need to save and what not.

What sucks is I live at home with my dad since im still young just out of high school and I have to wait for him to go to bed and if hes not asleep by 11pm I try my hardest to make him go to be lmfao Ill put on a boring show or sit where he usually does or act crabby to him lol which 95% of the time those work. Seems crazy that I go through that just to smoke but I guess thats how it goes.

Here's a good quote from Half Baked. I think it was at an NA (or similar) meeting and someone stands up and says they are addicted to marijuana. A cocaine addict (I think Bob Saget) stands up and in a screaming voice says:
"Marijuana is not a drug. I used to suck dick for coke. Now that's an addiction. You ever suck some dick for marijuana?"

I think that helps put things into perspective as far as marijuana addiction vs some of the hard drugs.
(I never actually saw the movie, but a friend of mine played the audio clip for me a while ago...I just looked up the source.)
