hi all. i'm 7 months pregnant and so excited/anxious! today i decided to cut my hours down to 3 days a week come november, and then take off the month of

december untill i have the baby.
childbirth classes are coming to and end (we took the bradley method) and my husband is going to paint the babies room this week. has anyone taken the bradley method? i'm planning to have a natural childbirth. sometimes i worry that its gonna hurt really badly, but most days i feel confident i can do it. i've been doin my relaxation excercises, and i feel very informed after reading....uhh...why am i drawing a blank.....the author is Goer. has anyone had experience with the bradley method?
    with big hugs~jenn

i know it is your first and you may be excited and nervous, but you won't remember anything about any "method" when you are in labor.

a women's body is designed to handle childbirth in whatever way works best for her. if i remember correctly, bradley method is "husband coached" correct? that is another thing, guys just don't get it sometimes, no matter how compassionate they are.

with my last birth, i moaned and groaned, showered, sat on the toilet, and kneeled at the side of the bed. i was comfortable doing these things because i was at home, and didn't care what anyone else thought. my labor was absolutely beautiful. no drugs. i pushed 3 times on my hands and knees and she was born. i just let my body tell me what to do.

with my first it was a lot different. i was in the hospital, very self consious of everything that i was doing, and i gave in very early to the drugs and ended up laying in bed for the whole labor. it sucked. (not to mention the horrible experience afterwords for baby-but that is a whole other thread ) :)

all i can tell you is, if you are giving birth in a hospital, make sure you are alone, and comfortable. don't let anyone tell you what to do and how to do it. you do not need to be hooked up to monitors or checked vaginally every hour. it all causes unneccesary stress on the mother. let your body tell you what to do. it is smarter than you think!!!

have fun, and remember that you can only give birth to this child once, so make it the best birth ever. baby definately deserves it. i can tell you are going to make a wonderful mommy by how concerned you are already ;)

lots of love to the 3 of you--sweetpeace

oh yeah, you can't prepare for the pain either. it is not like any pain you have experienced. it is a good strong feeling that helps get baby out. the more intense it gets, the more you know that you are doing everything right and things are moving along. you can do it!!! your body is meant to do it!!!

Your body is smart- it makes its own drugs- hormones and endorphins that sort of whack you out. Their designed to keep you calm and slightly irrational. I think it is important to remember that every birth is different. The labor was fine with me till the very end the pushing part. But by then there were people there who could tell me on good authority that I was doing well and to keep going.
If you have been reading and taking childbirth classe don't worry. You are as mentally prepared as you can get.
The only other thing you should do if you can is ask your mom how her birth(s) went. Remember that she was in the hospital in a different era and things are drastically different now. But ask her to tell you as many specifics as she feels comfortable with. Ask if she journalled about the experience anywhere. Reading and talking to her might give you a good indication of what kind of labors you might have inherited.

thanks so much! I saw my midwife yesterday, and alls well....the bradley method is husband coached, but also natural childbirth. I learned lots of natural ways to help labor progress without drugs, and even though we will be at the hospital, my midwife and husband have promised to be assertive, yet tactful with the hospital staff about complying to my wishes stated in my birth plan... hopefully in a few months i will have a great birth story to tell you all. :D

    hi there
just let your body do what it needs to

    in the moment you
will not really want to read a birth plan...
no one i know has gone through a written birth
plan during labour. im afraid to say those who wrote one
most often didnt even read them at the time
    ita all blag......

    just relax ,its your body

natural remember...you will only know what to do
in child birth at that moment ..
    good luck
    love and peace
    from saff
3 kids here all natural births, all different in some ways
but dont worry about keeping to the birth plan
you may find you have different views
    at the time of birth.

I went natural for the births of my children (I have 3), although one of my twins had to be taken by cesarean. Besides that, I did not use any pain medication or epidurals, and I was glad that I didn't. I felt such an adrenaline rush afterwards, so proud of myself, I was on a natural high. It's like a right of passage or something.

Like the other girls have said, your body knows what to do. Listen to it. :)

    Lots of luck, and congratulations!!!
