The young soldiers that go into the army these days are tricked into thinking that war is some huge game of glory and honour. They know themselves as heroes fighting for their country. A lot of these private mercenary armies are made up of kids that have been brought up on video games like counter strike etc. The role of video games like Americas Army is surely existant if the government is actively pumping money into this project. Metal gear solid said it best, "War as a game, what better way to train the perfect soldier." Meh maybe ive played too many video games.
I play fps alot and the first time i shot a gun i was pretty good at it. do you think theres a connection?
This is One of the Reasons Why I believe my Husband is Wanting to Sign up... He spends most of His Day Playing such Games...And Perhaps this is Giving him a False Illusion... I am Not too Against what he Does though as Anything is better than his Lawn mowing Job...O.O I just Don't think he knows what he is Letting Himself in for...
Lawn mowing job is a false illusion imo. im sorry, im not taking swings - i just think its funny how typical and ordinary today's society in UK is. yea, i play alot of fps, some tactical too. i can shoot well in real life too, like really well considering im untrained, and have very limited experience. i think the constant you seeing and doing, makes you more confident in the doing and doing. you know how they say - believe in yourself? well thats hard, but virtual situations do force such beliefs on you, especially after you own at the virtual. but me having been top 5 in almost every 40 player resistance match, constantly owning call of duty etc etc doesnt make me want to sign up for the army... army is for people who dont need to use open thinking, theyre told what to do and they think how to do it, not why do it. S.A.S does seem interesting though
I've been playing FPS since DOOM. The one time i tried to play laser tag, i got pwned by middle schoolers. On the other hand, i like sandbox type games more than anything else, so that might help explain it, as well as my pack-a-day smoking habit and boycott of any physical exercise that involves sweating.
I play Operation Flashpoint. It's game engine is based off of VBS1, a warfare simulator used for military training. If you play that game you wont want to goto war. There's no health bar where you can take like 50 bullets then grab a health pack.
