I keep hearing about the five levels of acid. What are they? A directory to a web page containing the information would work as well. I'll search erowid while I'm at it.

Well, in the forum "the first time" burnabowl mentioned that the original poster had reached "level 5 transcendence", which is what he claims acid is all about. I read earlier that some guy had only reached level three.

I vaguely remember something of this sort. Level five means you lose all sense of self and the world around you, and everything merges into one, or something. Level one is just like distorted thinking.

    I thought it was four...

+One: Strong visual hallucinations. Bright colours stand out, objects appear to ripple or breathe. Coloured patterns behind the eyes are vivid, more active. Moments of reflection and distractive thought patterns. Thoughts and thinking become enhanced. Creative urges. Euphoria. Connection with others, empathy. Sense of time distorted or lost.

+Two: Very obvious visual effects. Curved or warped patterns. Familiar objects appear strange as surface details distract the eye. Imagination and 'mind's eye' images become vivid and three dimensional. Some confusion of the senses. Some awareness of background mental processes such as balance systems or auditory visual perception. Old memories becomes accessible. Images or experiences may rise up. Music is powerful and can affect your mood. Sense of time lost.

+Three: Very strong hallucinations such as objects morphing into other objects. Intense depersonalisation - the barriers between you and the universe begin to break down. You feel you have connection with everything around you. You can experience contradictory feelings simultaneously. Some loss of reality. Time meaningless. Senses blend into one. Feeling of being born. Multiple splitting of the ego. Powerful awareness of your own mental processes and senses. Highly symbolic visions when eyes are closed.

+Four: A very rare experience. Total loss of visual connection with reality. The senses cease to function in the normal way. Total loss of self. Merging with space, other objects, or the universe. The loss of reality becomes so severe that it defies explanation. Pure white light.

    Four seems so friggin cool.

wow kids, remember that these 'psychedelic levels' are just worked out by some person who feels they can safely split the effects ranges of drugs into four or five heirarchial levels of effect.

Leary had a lot of great ideas, but he is becoming outdated.

yeah there's different scales to describe different planes of awareness. eastern religions have a longer litany of conscious states. we're all trying to describe the same things, it just comes out differently. I mentioned "level 5" only because that's what's on erowid which is typically our reference, and I only mentioned it to that OP because he had mentioned studying a lot so I felt I might be speaking his language better or something...no big deal I just meant ego or self dissolution, of melding into the universe, which indeed is what I think acid is all about. But that "level 5" is from a psychedelic scale, I'm sure there's no final plateau for mind expansion, astral projection, whatever the case is.

here's what I meant originally. sry shoulda been more clear it's nothing new

although reading this I can't really say that the one tripper experienced level 5; it's not really my place to know. I just got really excited about his trip report and naturally wanted to put concept and label all over it:D

yeah the wiki version is a bit better than on erowid. it's really hard to even classify my own journeys with this system. i.e. i feel like I experienced everything from level 5 except total visual loss of reality and body functions ceasing. but then again I very well might have experienced those.

granted dmt or ketamine-supplemented trips will send a person farther up the chart but that's not to say a person is incapable of the same with lsd alone, or with no drug at all.

I had an experience beyond level 5 on my LSD/DMT experience. I took 10 hits of good blotter and one huge rip of DMT out of a bong. Oh it was on the beach too.

If you believe there are five levels
    then there are five levels

if you don't believe in a number of levels
then you have infinite space to work with

Then you might gain access to the Akashic Records . .

well I always interpreted the 5th level as distinct from the others in that it cannot be contained or measured and is not a 'level' the way the others are and has a limitless potential. I see it as more like 4 levels and then beyond that a nebulous frontier with no definitions or limitations

I did mushrooms and most of it was about level 3 but the peak was level 4, or a lot of characteristics from level 4.

how many hits of average-good acid do you think one would have to take to hit that so called level 5...? ;) ..Also, how much would take you to just about level 1-2, maybe a hit or so?
