You can always crochet or use a felting needle. I personally love those loose tips.

I used a crotchet hook, around 1.25mm size.
Took a while but worked really well.

take the end of the dread and rub it in your palm both clockwise and counter-clockwise til it gets all frizzy and leave it alone and it'll dread a lot faster

you poke holes thriugh the dread then poull loose hairs thriugh.. but keep in mind that every hole u poke thriouygh the dread rips hairs to shreds this will weaken the dread as a whole maybe a few holes wont cause a dread to break but the more u do it the weaker the dread becomes and the more likely it will break

is loose ends that bad that youd risk losin the dread?

loose tips i think look better, more natiral
but if your really againsty them u could simply cut off the ends
again im not suggesting that im against cutting or sewing or poking holes (not too fond of backcombing either but to each theyre own)

u might just wanna let em grow and see how u feel about them
like worldpeace had hers crochetted to blunt ends and got sick of em so took em out preffering the loose tip look..

personaly i say let em do what they dop.. if they blunt naturaly then cool if they dont then why should they..
98% of mine arent blunt and i love em like that

I love the look of loose ends and am always chasing mine out of the locks with a comb.

some of my loose tips I love, because they are healthy, shiny and fall evenly from the dread... but some of my dreads formed with funky tips coming out from the side of the dread or just looked like one nasty string (I definitely did not like the look of those)... so I just snip the nasties right off. I don't know why folk seem to shy away from scissors when maintaining dreads, but after I snipped off some of the stringy, nasty ends they actually begin to grow back thicker and healthier.

I've tried crocheting but it looked unnatural to me as the dread looked "folded up" at the tip and I could see the weaved hair through the dread no matter how tiny of a crochet hook I used. Plus, I do like my loose tips, just clean, healthy tips... so with snipping them off they grows back, but nicer.
