how come gays get the rainbow? I love all colors, so how come one community of peoples gets all of refracted light?

I'm not gay, but I was wondering, seriously- Does anyone know how this came to be, and do YOU even like the rainbow personally??? ? ?

I think rainbow is more of a hippie thing than a gay thing anyway.

i love the rainbow, but i love my psychedelics, so I guess i get it from two parts of me :)

Who cares if you aren't gay. Wear whatever you want thats rainbowy. If people ask if you are gay, just say no. simple.

who cares? if you like it you like it, if you dont you dont.

its mainly just for the flag, the rest is kind of for fun.

why are the US national colors red white and blue? not every american likes those, i know i prefer purple. its just how it is you know?

Not sure about the rainbow flag idea but maybe from the "Somewhere Over The Rainbow" song that a lot gay people seemed to identify with. Throughout history lots of groups of people laid claim to rainbow flags..you can still see rainbow flags around cuzco, Peru because the Inca's used it. Jesse Jackson used to claim a Rainbow Coalition political movement. Can't really see that it matters anyway, if you like the rainbow it's all yours.

I don't quite know why the rainbow flag is the gay flag it probably came about from the 60ties with flower power and homosexualities being leagulised.

It's supposed to reflect the diversity of the queer community

From what i heard and read is that the rainbow flag is not exclusively used for the LGBT community, its been used worldwide as a symbol or peace, harmony or diversity. However in the LGBT case the colours were designed to symbolize a meaning, such as: red (life), orange (healing), yellow (sunlight), green (nature), blue (harmony), and purple/violet (spirit).

But i do think that may vary depending on its source.

It is almost universally a symbol of unity of all parts. Just as white light refracts to make the rainbow, we are all, in our diversity part of a whole.

Spiritual leader, Meher Baba has a rainbow flag with seven colors and that was in the '70s.
