I love to swim. But with my 2 week old dreads, I read that I shouldnt get my hair wet for a while. A guy with great dreads told me no showers for a month, and no swimming for 3 months. But after this long time, how often can I shower and swim. Also, I know about the non residue stuff, is chlorine and salt from water bad for dreads?

Also, for the past five years or so, I've been growing my hair out, then donating it to locks of love. When the time comes when I have to cut them, can I still donate them?

Also, the saddest one, I'll probably go bald. All the men in my family are, so my times coming. Will I lose entire dreads when the time comes? Or will they not fall out and when and if I finally do cut them will I be shocked to find myself bald?

    Thanks a ton.

PS, where can I buy a tam for cheap?

chlorine tightens your dreads and washing them every 2-3 days helps them lock up faster.hope this helps

sea salt helps them tighten alot so swimming in the ocean is best

the uy u alkedto is an idiot
clean hair dreads bettr then dirty
they knot up most right after u wash

honestly man, it doesn't matter when you wash em. i go swimming almost every single day and it makes no difference. you can do all the same things with dreads that you can do with normal hair. just live your life.

Yea all good advises, agree with liquid, doesnt change much dreads or not. I get mine wet once every 2 days at least.

chlorine isn't good for any hair, but that's why you rinse off afterwards. Saltwater is great for tightening dreads. I personally wouldn't change my lifestyle because of dreads so if I did swim a lot I'd continue to do so.

    no.

the dreads will fall out. But just so you know, I've seen bald guys continue rocking the hair they have left in dreads... personal preference.

    you're welcome :D

What a relief I can swim. Thanks everyone I washed em, and now they feel light and fluffy. And dont smell bad. Thanks!

To soaring eagle- I used no wax, I backcombed. I dont think the guy was an idiot, because I didnt do the backcombing all at once. It took a couple days, and I had a bunch of loose clumps of hair, and he probably thought I was doing it naturally. Cause he said that dreads need to establish themselvs before you wash them. Thanks for your concern.

ewwwww..... now that's something to turn people off dreads, lol! but i think it looks gross mainly cause it looks like he's got his hair that way cause he thinks it looks cool, not cuase he actually likes it that way. makes a difference, IMO.
