Theres one national gathering every year centered around the 4th of July. but seasonaly there are other 'regional' gatherings that are smaller but in my opinion much better. Shawnee gathering in south Illinois is starting like right now. That's all I'm aware of being that i stay east of the mississipi these days, but i'm sure there are other gatherings out west.
I think the focus is more on tribal lifestyles, for alot of different reasons, there are some native tribes that recognize us as a related tribe for fulfilling the prophecy, but we got a long way to go.
this thread http://www.hipforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2423 is all about the prophecy, it's really interesting, we do have a ways to go before we fufill it, but we're on the path, so all is coming along as the universe planed. welcome brother, we love you
Why is it called a gathering of the tribes, that is a good question. It is an affirmation that we are all different people, who live and believe differently, but that we can all come together to live in peace for the time of a gathering and then leave no trace. So my tribe is either the Liberty tribe, because that is what the folks who started drum circles at Liberty Park in SLC UT named it or the Kid Village tribe, because I hang out an plug in with them at nationals, or the Magic Bowl tribe of the few folks who plug into that kitchen my nuclear family brings. If you're a Krishna or a Faerie or a Yoga guru you might feel in tune with those "tribes", some kitchens have a tribe feel, Indigenous camp travels together and does sweats and huge drums circles and councils at gatherings. I hope that helps I just woke up Becca
Someone once said one of the many reasons that there are gatherings is so that we may exercise our right to peaceably assemble. People also go to Rainbow gatherings to play in drum circles and people gather to celebrate things like the autumnal equinox. Some people even pray for world peace. I like the sharing aspect of it and the fact that you can donate your own time and energy to help out because you never know when you may need a meal from a good kitchen.
Maybe it's just a way of satisfying a visceral human desire for unconditional fellowship. (please dont ask me to actually pronounce that sentence)
