I'm new here, hello everyone. I've had a rough couple of months and have been given Prozac by my doctor. I've read some very positive and very negative things about it and was wondering if anyone had any first hand experiences of it and could let me know what to expect etc. I'm only on my second day of taking it so I don't really have much to tell atm. <br>

    Cheers

I know that Prozac is mostly composed of Fluoxotine (ive heard 97%), which is derived from Fluoride, which is known to be a harmful chemical, and a mind numbing agent. This information is confirmed, but often discredited.

I have been prescribed Fluoxetine (sold in America under the name Prozac) to go along with ongoing psychotherapy i am undertaking for chronic major depression.
what to expect? : if you've been feeling anxious, or paranoid, expect it to make you feel more relaxed. if you've been feeling suicidal, that seems to go away. if you've been just feeling like crying or just effortless/despondent, then it should reduce that,
but in my experience, the feelings of despondency or fatigue may not lift until after some weeks/months of treatment.

i don't know if that's any use to you.
i've been taking it along with diazepam so my anxiety is affected by that i guess.

Been awhile since I've had prozac. There are ways to speed it up but should take anything from 4 to 6 weeks to have any effect and about 2 weeks to leave ya body after ya stopped take it, on a high dose they can also make u feel sick, restless, hyper tention, sexual disfunction (not shore but think its used in the treatment of serial sex offenders). Ever heard the expression its could get worse before it gets better?. The idea is to take u down lower then the depression to the point where you really dont care about anything so your troubles that were bothering you dont seem so bad and u can work them out or come t term with. Most ppl i know n include myself have flipped out on it and gotten a bit violent especially if mixed with drink. For me walking around feeling like a zombie was noval for a while but soon got bored with it.

Actually the very air we breathe could be classed as a harmful chemical. Its called free radicals which over time destroy the cells in your body its why we age and die

Everybody is different in terms of how they respond to fluoxetine (and any other medication for that matter). Prozac can be prescribed for a variety of things, sounds like for depression in your case. Some people benefit hugely from it -- thus the positive reviews. Some people don't respond much at all. And some people have negative experiences, be it physical or mood effects -- thus the negative reviews.
I think that having read very positive and very negative things, you have some idea that people's experiences vary. You just need to see how you do. Anti-depressant effects can take weeks to really kick-in significantly. Some side-effects are faster than others, many diminish with time.

The important thing is to get in touch with your doctor if you have problems. If the side-effects are intolerable, let your doc know... and don't just stop taking the med without letting him/her know. If you have major mood symptoms, again, get in touch with your doc, quickly so that they can respond appropriately.

HOPEFULLY your doctor gave you some advice about side-effects to expect, and those to look out for that are problematic.

its pretty mild when it comes to side effects next to most SSRI's. at first you can feel kinda spacey and out of it, but after 2 weeks, you should notice a difference, if it doesnt work out for you though, make sure you slowly take yourself off of it, the side effects would be really bad if you just quit taking it
