how to make an old couch look good?

i have this really awesome couch, its this weird silky material and its really comfy, but its a light color so its dingy. how could i make it look new agian? resolve doesnt seem to work well.

 

OxyClean. The guy on the info-mercial who looks like Al from Home Improvement yells at you as he demonstrates. It works.

Or you could always unzip the fabric from the cushions, turn them inside out and put them in a bowl of detergent and hand wash 'em.

It's a polyester material right? Don't put it in the dryer or use hot water on it.

 

I dont know but I can sure help you accoplish the opposite... Have kids.

 

Heh. I just looked up polyester in my "How to Clean Anything" book:

It easily pills when laundered with other fabrics and attracts oil stains like a magnet. Hand-wash or gently machine-wash a polyester garment, turning it inside out to reduce the visibility of pilling. Let it drip dry or use a low temperature setting on your dryer and remove the garment as soon as the tumble cycle is complete. If ironing is needed, use a medium setting. Dry cleaning is OK for most items."

Apparently my book tells me that there are upholstery letter codes on the labels on the cushions or furniture pieces nowadays. Letter codes include W, S, S-W, and X. Do you have a letter code for cleaning instructions?
