I am totally against bringing religion into the mix, but I watched Saturday nights interviews. Obama was the statesman, while McCain rarely answered a question without a story stressing his "war hero" status. It was sad, kind of like watching Kerry throw the race, but in this case McCain can't lose.... this country will never elect a President Obama today. How could the dems if they were serious about winning even let him get this far? Don't get me wrong I like what he has to say and the fact that he's thoughtful about what he says, he just can't overcome that name.
You could say the same for McCain, without a rubber stamp republican congress to do his bidding, a strong Speaker of the House and Senate Majority Leader could make McCain a lame duck in his first 100 days. So why would you vote for the guy who is going to be paralyzed for half his first term and possibly for the full 4 years ? What makes you say this ? So far Obama has not been a particularly polarizing figure. In fact he is reaching out to voters across the divide, which is why he attended the Saddleback forum. You will never catch McCain going to a forum conducted in front a group of feminists or gays. You will have to go into more detail on this one. If you are willing to vote for Nader, I don't see why you would have a problem with Obama. Why is war a good thing ? Seriously, we already have two wars to deal with, do you really think a 3rd is a good idea ? Where do you think McCain will get the troops for this little adventure ? Do you think the Russians will roll over the way the Iraqi army did ? Are aware the Russians have nuclear weapons ? Those two men are polar opposites, they disagree on virtually every issue, I would think someone who is considering voting for McCain, would be more inclined to vote for Bob Barr or write in Ron Paul.
For those who like to follow the saga. http://www.realclearpolitics.com/epolls/2008/president/us/general_election_mccain_vs_obama-225.html .
Not to mention the Biblical fundamentalism thing. It's curious why they thought that would be an answer after being rooted in a 60s atmosphere that questioned established religion and politics. They also borrowed money to spoil their kids. .
Yeah, I think we've established that already. Well, some of us anyway. I cannot focus very much of my attention on this election charade, mainly because it's pointless. Presidents decide next to nothing.
Oh, and for those of you who still believe that it makes a difference who you vote for, just read this quote from Bill Clinton's former mentor at Georgetown, Carroll Quigley: "The argument that the two parties should represent opposed ideals and policies, one, perhaps, of the Right and the other of the Left, is a foolish idea acceptable only to doctrinaire and academic thinkers. Instead, the two parties should be almost identical, so that the American people can 'throw the rascals out' at any election without leading to any profound or extensive shifts in policy. Then it should be possible to replace it, every four years if necessary, by the other party, which will be none of these things but will still pursue, with new vigor, approximately the same basic policies."
I want him to be a lame duck as much of his term as possible because I think bush has overmade the executive office, with help of every president since FDR. a paralyzed mccain hurts the republican, and angry dems become more politically useful for anyone who actually wants change just based on their demographics, they're more likely to jump ship to a third party. it's a strategic vote, not a tactical one and 6, I probably know more about russia's military hardware than you do, so please, do not patronize me "do you know they have nuclear weapons" yes, and they know we do, that's why they will take military action if the missile shield goes up, it would let us nuke them with greatly mitigated reprisal. it is a game changer for M.A.D.
My question to you is, are you you willing to go fight in a war with Russia, are you willing to lay down your life for John McCain ?
I can definitely see the logic in your argument but like Number6 says, McSame is crazy enough to bring us into a war that will be total destruction. I'm not willing to lay down my life or my meager fortune or good health I should say for either Obama or McLame. Fuck it----I'm writing in Ron Paul.
there is always canada. and by the time they drafted me half the government would have collapsed anyway and I would have expatriated. I'm not on the short list for meatshields.
uhhh...Canada is refusing asylum to AWOL soldiers today and they participate in the fighting in Afghanistan. What makes you think they will harbor all of us American expatriates. Now maybe if you said there's always the Yukon Territory, then you may have something, yes I know its part of Canada. But lets fight them here so we don't end up forced into their wars of imperialism and greed.
Frankly? I do not have to explain my thinking to you. I choose to say that I believe, based on the information I have, based on the past 40 years of how americans have voted, and how we got here? if obama is elected, the next president after will just be another republican, as bad as, if not worse than bush, we will PRAY for barry goldwater's brand of redemption, or jimmy carter's for that matter.
Actually it DOES make sense. But it won't work. That's exactly what I thought was going to happen when Bush seized the throne, but the American populace is so caught up with Britney Spears and their fashion award ceremonies that it wasn't about to happen. In a society with critical thinkers, it might very much be the case. On my more negative days, I'm almost convinced that the American people deserve the slavery they're about to get. But no, that's all just a conspiracy theory, isn't it. You pathetic fuckin sheep.
No you do not have to explain yourself to me, but then, why did you post your opinion on the internet if you didn't want the flaws in your thinking pointed out to you ?
