if you're going natural, the hair will section itself. what my hair did, was it started sectioning off, then those sections start to become knotted up. And when it starts to actually become knotted up, that's when you just need to keep an eye on it and tear if the matted hair starts becoming too big.
it cant hurt to help with the sectionong/seperating though cause if u let it go too long you will havre trouble seperating that 1 dread thicker then your arm
Skribb, you look like you're the perfect guy for dreads. I love your personality that seems apparent on here! Cute. lol. And LOL!!!!!
I know it's a little (a lot) late Lilyrayne, but uh, thanks! I wanted to stop by and make an update. Basically, apart from a few tangles, pretty much nothing has happened. By now, I expected dreadlings, at the least, but what I've got is what could be described as uncombed hair. I've been wearing a ponytail most of the time, albeit really loose. I don't feel like that should be a problem. Apart from that I've been not-brushing my hair, refrained from using conditioner and have been using an organic nettle shampoo, washing about every 3-4 days. Oh, and I haven't used a hairdryer. I was wondering you guys had any tips on what to do now. Maybe work a little beeswax in there? I know of one girl who had her dreads backcombed, then she put beeswax in it. The thing with her though is that she only had to apply it once. I figure if I could work something like that out I won't have to worry about the alleged horrors of wax, non-natural dreads and what-have-you. Or maybe I should just wash the hair less often. What say you? (hmm, perhaps a photograph is due. well, I just washed my hair, but I'll get one up tomorrow!)
how long has it been man? it takes a loong time for actual dreads to form. I had maybe 1 or 2 dreads about 2-3 months in, but it didn't really start knotting up until 6-7 months. I still have areas of hair that has not started knotting up at all. i would advise against beeswax, as it will not help at all. All that will do is cause the hair to STICK together, rather than KNOT. you want it to knot, knots=dreads.just forget about your hair for a year, and you will have locks before you know it. just try not to think about it.
How long? About 3 months give or take a coupla' days. I have a few knots and tangles here 'n there. Thanks for the reply, you've refueled my patience immensely. I can definitely hang on, it just seemed hopeless because another guy on this forum posted pictures of his 3 month old dreadlings and they looked almost fully locked. Mileage may vary I guess! Cheers :cheers2:
yup, some are just blessed with hair that knots faster. But patience is a virtue, and if you stick with it, you will be very glad you did! the time will fly by, trust me.
