the year was 2002. me and my bass player were cruising the web and we stumbled upon an even called "Bonnaroo". The line up was massive and so diverse and exciting. In a matter of days i get word that my whole freaky family is meeting at the fest. the dream was going to be realized. i was 15 years old and when i arrived to the grounds i was in shock. i had previously only been to a few Trey Band shows at the Greek Theater, Bonnaroo was something totally new. The first night is a blur of lights, new faces and overwhelming highs.
the next day i dosed my first hit of acid in over a year. i roamed the festival grounds with my brother laughing and loving in the sunlight. i found myself back at the campground tripping so hard. i was in a grass village, watching little grass people with there grass homes, grass docks, grass boats in a grass pond. it was crazy. i woke up to my uncles girlfriend, Paula, looking over me, she asks "you ok?" i come to realizing where i am at and mumble to her that i am ok. the whole gang of family and friends shows up and whisks me away to the the Les Claypool and the Flying Frog Brigrade show and the fest truly started. The fest was filled with old favorites and new bands that became instant classics in my life. The most epic show was the Trey Band show at the end of the weekend. the energy was unparalleled. it was so high and so gorgeous. i felt so good. it was the b12 shot to the madness that the 7.12.01 TAB show started a year before.....

Most memorable show for me was probably ratdog at the orpheum in 2006. I dont know why. After listening to a recording, it wasnt all that spectactular. It was great, but not epiiiic. I just remember taking some mushrooms and dancing all night, realizing what life was all about.

Dark Star Orchestra two night run at the Nokia Theatre in NYC this winter was also awesome. Great people, great vibes, and grateful dead music.

Also, Mule shows have always been quite pleasurable.

The only bands with crowds that I dont like are like disco biscuits, and the likes. Too many people fucked up, too many fights, and not as much love.

    currently playing or overall?

I've been in a folkie hole since I took a job at a folk venue, but:
Fareed Haque group, Garaj Mahal (there's a connection), Whatever Steve Kimock is up to, Porter -Batiste -Stoltz, Jeff Austin & Friends, Ratdog, Jemima Puddleduck (another connection), David Nelson Band (I love Barry Sless), Panagea.

man, I need to get out more.

Without regard to current status, I came through the back door to the Dead, had some good times with late 90s Widespread Panic, Leftover Salmon, SCI, Yonder, lots of locals no one else knew.

Festies? if I had to pick two, I'd travel for High Sierra and I live near Nederland Music and Arts fest.

My brother used to be really into keller and no so much any more, Kellers just fun, what music is about.... I'm not a fan of everything he does but man its a fun show and usually really good people to vibe with. That said I could see how someone trying to listen to Keller objectively might not dig on the vibe, to that person I would say " just put it in the background while your working and let it grow on ya"

i was once into him. it grew very stale and repetitive. it seemed more like a joke as time went on.
