Does anyone know any good sitar songs?? You know the songs where you could just sit back and smoke a joint to :sifone: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=paZb7Di3jfA
Go to www.last.fm type in ali akbar khan he plays the sarode beautiful. I used to play sitar. Their music theory is much more complex and beautiful than "Western" music theory, IMO.
Shocking Blue - Acka raga Orange Sunshine - Ruler of the universe The Byrds - Moog raga Siena Root - Bhairavi Duhn Some of Ravi Shankar: Raga rageshri (all parts), Karnataki, West eats meat, Fire night.
dreamingcasually: what a gorgeous song ! Thanks for posting. stalk: from where did you studied eastern music theory ?
People, try this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WM1nav-rjeI&feature=rec-fresh It´s very short but very cute fusion of American rock (Sweet Child O´Mine - Guns´n´Roses) and Indian world music. Sitar leads
Hm, I also have sitar versions of Light my fire and Paint it black. Guess those sitar interpretations of such songs are just not for me. I prefer authentic sitar music more, or mixed with trip hop and such in ways that Thievery Corporation does it. Nirali, have you also tried Bhairavi Dhun of Siena Root? That's my favourite song with rock and sitar mixed: lengthy and psychedelic
i prefer sarod: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aashish_Khan aashish khan is an elegant and passionate player.
you know what's a good one to put on if you're trying to get spooked? tana mana, that's the one ravi shankar did with phillip glass. for some reason it's legitimately creepy to me.
I know they worked together, I have that album but what album is tama mana on?? I've never heard this.
tana mana, sorry, is the ravi shankar album: here's a video: http://www.mtv.com/overdrive/?vid=155088
yeah, around '89 or so. tana mana itself is very nice. but many of the other tracks on there are disturbing when you listen in the dark. some are energizing. but they're really not for relaxation for the most part.
The album Tana mana is great, I especially like West east meat. I don't really see it as spooky but it sure has a mysterious vibe to it. :cheers2:
yes. i believe tana mana was recorded at harrison's home studio. they were very close. phillip glass in general gives me a headache. i think his work with ravi shankar could be compared to van gogh's yellow period. it just does something wrong to some people's heads and that's that.
