So a non dreaddie told me that if I didn't dry my hair thoroughly my hair would mold and stink  I have only ever air dried (didn't want lint and fuzz from a towel in my dreads) and my hair doesn't stink. But I am also only 10 weeks or so in. WDYT? I personally LOVE that I can air dry my hair, I was never able to do that predreads.

hell yes you have to dry dreads. They will get mould inside, due to them staying wet and no air getting to the inside of the dread. try to make sure that they are dry before going to bed, or get the hair dryer out!

mine take 28 hours to druy i go to bed with em damp all the time
mold tyoicaly comes from wax trapping water in them
so the core never really dries
ive inly had em smell funky once from putting on a wool tam before thwety dried

i just shake mine out then let em dry slowly
in winter i plan on not going out for at least 24 hours after washuing em
in summer if its good n hot out they can get faitly fry in a few hours

i dont use a towl i usedd a blow dryer for a week but the hours of blow drying burned it out in a week
as long as u dont stuf em in a hat they will be fine but if u stuff em in a hat wet yoiur adskin for troiubvle

I don't even own a hair dryer. I threw it out when I stopped using shampoo years ago. I'll be sure they dry well while I have this wax in my hair. Thanks again guys!

Yeah they can gather mould. I wash my dreads 3 times a week now it's summer and if I don't thoroughly dry them with a hair dryer, when I wake up my hair ab-solutely stinks!

I have used a blow dryer but mostly not. I go to bed damp, go around doing my daily things while they dry, whatever. I very much like when I can wash and take a longish ride with the windows down.

I go to bed with them wet (well, damp) once or twice a week as I wash them at night. I'd rather they be dry when I put them up for work the next morning. I worry more about breakage than mold since I want them to grow looooong one day. blow dryer = breakage; wet hair + ponytail/bun = breakage. They dry thoroughly by the next day so I doubt I'll get mold... and my hair never stinks so I don't know what's in ya'll's dreads.... hahahaha

the longer and thicker your dreads are, the more you have to be concerned about drying time (wow soaring eagle!!!!)

i only ever blow dry in the winter, if i'm going out and they're wet, then they'll get too cold, lol! plus with the dampness it doesn't help them dry.

but most of the time i just let them air dry. i squeeze all the moisture i can out of them when i get out of the shower, wrap a towel around my head for 10 minutes or so, then let them down and let them do their thing. :) it works fine for me... they usually take about 6 hours or so if i'm not outside, if i go sit in the sun or go somewhere in the car, maybe 1 hour or 2 tops.

That's about how often I wash as well. I believe it's one of the reasons my hair locked up so fast and hard - my hair is very clean.

my hair is very clean too... but i let my scalp rest between washings, lol! i wash once a week, and my scalp produces much less oil now than it ever did before i dreaded... because i let it rest!

oh, and man, it's just too damn much work to wash your hair more than once a week! it takes me at least 45 minutes just to wash them, and then it takes hours for them to dry! i don't have time for that every other damn day, lol!

Wow, I had no idea it could take that long. My hair still has a lot of wax on it and when I wring it out more water is expunged but it's still not nearly as absorbent as it should be. And it dries rather quickly  This weekend I am doing my wax removal marathon until this shit it OUT! :D

FWIW I don't wash because my scalp is oily - I don't think it would get oily if I didn't wash for months - but my hair feels dirty and I get the added bonus of tighter dreds.
