I agree, Penny. I was just thinking earlier today about how "hippie" is "uncool" but everyone and their mother is into the "green trend". It's a trend for them, albeit one of the better ones, I suppose.
Yes it is. You want everybody to be just like you. I don't think like you and I don't want to. Nobody wants to be told how to live. It's annoying. So how do you propose to achieve this "world peace" nonsense? World peace would be the END of the world, since the population would skyrocket faster than you can say boo...
Seems like "hippies" co-opt some idea and then its a "hippie" idea. Not wanting war is isn't limited to just hippies. Plus the term hippy implies a sort of sameness that is its own conformity It also implies a living out of time and non progressive style and taste
But you never had the clout to implement your ideas, big business see’s an opportunity to make big bucks off it, so - Green is In Hotwater
I don't know what I think about these terms, because all people that use natural things and live in a way that is not harmful to the environment aren't the same. I guess i'm "green" in the sense that I eat natural foods and I try to do what's good for me and the world around me, but I do that buy growing my own food, shopping locally and making some of my own "products". "green" is just a word that makes it sound cool and trendy, and it's used to advertise more product. And "hippie" is just a word, too. Sure, I like to go barefoot and I smoke pot and I let my hair dread and i'm a generally optimistic happy person and I hate the government, but what does that really mean, besides that: I like to go barefoot and I smoke pot and I let my hair dread and i'm a generally optimistic happy person and I hate the government?
“Green” has been around for decades... it's the fact that it is now economically realistic that is making it popular now. The "feel good" satisfaction of benefiting the environment is not enough to make people do things good for it, but now that technology has come far enough that we can do green things and make it cost less than the alternative, the mass populace has embraced green... and the trend is growing. How can hippies berate this since it is the embodiment of one of the hippy ideals? So, now it's not just a hippy pipe dream anymore, but a reality, helped created by hippies, but being implemented in a far greater realm and scope than ever imagined. The essence of the idea is still there, and now people aren't just talking about it or recycling, but actually embracing it and conceiving of BIG things to help this world. Is it that it’s not just a bunch of hippies caring for the world but guys in suits too? Nothing really happens in this world without money, and if being ecological is not economical it will never happen either. We should all be glad that it IS going that way and embrace green as a sister movement. It’s the embodiment of what many hippies have been shouting about and protesting for decades – and now that it’s on our doorstep, you want to shoot it down?!?! Wow, knocking green as being a bunch of corporate whores is ridiculous... especially since one major influential company could do more for the environment with a hand shake or new product than all the hippie efforts over the past 40 some odd years combined. Maybe it will be incentive for other companies to get with the program and “green up” too. As for world peace and communism... Well, they are nice ideas but they don't work with human nature. Son of Peace, your ideals ARE conforming and you wish them forced upon other people. I do believe that is one of the trappings of Marxism. It goes against freedom. Also, isn’t that what the administration of this country (which I highly doubt you care for) is trying to do to other parts of this world? Forcing democracy and thus our ideal on to other societies? Also, isn’t it self evident that most people in this world do not ascribe to your beliefs, since they are not mostly hippies? Societies are constructed by people and are based on their nature and will naturally gravitate to what it “should be” based upon the actions of the people in that society, provided the masses are allowed to affect their society. And societies are very different and diverse, thus their values will be very different and diverse too. And if those values come into direct conflict with another society’s values, war will happen, as it has since the dawn of humanity. World peace is a misplaced ideal because all cultures are not the same and should not be forced into the same set of ideals/values. That’s what makes this world interesting and diverse. I’d fear the day when everyone comes together as one with the same values and ideals, because that will be the death of human diversity, cultural identity, and personal individuality. Props Mitten Kitten and mamaKCita. Oh shit, I probably just openned Pandora's Box...
doubtful... you'll learn quickly that nobody bothers to read posts that go on for more than 100 words...
This "green" stuff is all nonsense. Not that you can't be environmentally conscious. But this push for everything green comes straight from the top and is being promoted by all the corporations with millions and millions of dollars behind it. It's a joke.
Oh let's save the world for us humans by destroying humans lest there should be overpopulation. FLAWLESS logic.
which is why most people don't have the mental capacity to make an articulated point on a subject as broad as this, let alone comprehend one... maybe that is why people don't like hippies - they can spout off about things but can't really discuss them?! :willy_nilly:
This hippie thing doesn't even enter my sphere of consciousness until people write a thread about it on this here forum.
I'd like to believe it is possible, and wise, to build micro-colonies that are completely sustainable and able to be completely self contained. but I'm a damn hippy I guess, so I'm crazy, and it'll never happen fuck political agenda's, it just makes good sense to live in a better world.
nevada has a level of background radiation almost 2000% of what it was 70 years ago. it's not nearly that bad elsewhere, but, shit man. also, you have to wear a shitload more sunscreen in oz than you used to.
are you referring to hippies or the people that don't like them here? i read your post now; it seemed important since we are discussing it. i'm more likely to read a long post the first time i see it if it is from a poster that i know and interests me, instead of someone i've never heard of with 20 posts, but anyway, i read it now... i could be wrong, but your answer seems to assume that most people here are hippies, which is far from the case, particularly in the random thoughts forum. i'm not an expert on the conspiracy theories, but i think part of the aversion to the corporate green trend is that they are only pretending to do what the people want, when in reality they have more devious plans that they are using the green trend to help them accomplish... at least theoretically... only 2 or 3 ignorant dumbasses here actually believe in unconditional world peace, so i really wouldn't worry about pandora coming after you..
