Ahem. It's cause they are too young to realize (most of them) that situations pass and are temporary.
not only this, but also, many of them are useless, they seek purpose, but find none, their existence is a hollow one, like that of a pianist for a player piano, but that they can do is load the reel, set the stiles and allow it to play itself, being nothing but an appendage of the machine, and being called operator, but being nothing more than a mechanism to serve it in a way it may not serve itself such is the emptiness of purposelessness. such is the emptiness of the existence of those who are without meaning, and as such, they find no purpose, no meaning in anything around them depression is not so much sadness. it is more the screaming need for purpose, and the white hot pain of it's absence it would be like no longer having to eat as all your nutrients are provided intravenously, it would not stop your ravening hunger though. depression is that hunger, that empty, hollow, hunger, starvation without death, in life without purpose.
why? because poor people who have purpose in life are making all of the things that these purposeless shells buy to be happy, so they, can, themselves, someday, bring their children to a nation wherein they can become purposeless shells? edit: I should say, this is an argument for collapsed societies.
Man, one of us needs to get off our ass, and write a short story about the collapse of humanity (through the eyes of several characters, a generation apart each, starting with modern day, ending in 100 years when humanity has died not from war, not from famine, but from disinterest in continuing without a purpose)
I think humanity is alive and well. I just think U.S. hegemony has less than 50 years to live. I also think the average American citizen will be the better for it. Europe is.
I have not yet been to europe, I've not seen anything of the world really. and, unfortunately, do not know the state of europe, as much influence as america has had in europe after the second world war, I have always felt concern they might fall the same fate. I suppose I just need to get there and see how wrong I am, and how much better the world is when you aren't afraid of it.
OBVIOUSLY it's because it's cool to slit your wrists, if you want to die or not, dur... Seriously, in most cases that's why everyone's depressed. I remember my senior year, all the juniors were debating who had a worse life. I also remember thinking they don't know what shitty is, they think not getting $50 a week from daddy is bad. They truly make things bad for themselves, call themselves fat and stupid because "sad" is cool and their parents mostly go along with it because it's now a part of growing up. I'd be ashamed to be associated with most of the younger generations, they have no respect and no personality. I think it'd be funny to see them in a few years and ask how they feel about themselves back then. I guess everyone has their fall backs as a teen.
Haven't kids always been that way?? I'm sure it's just wasn't so -in your face- kinda thing. With the help of the internet, it's much more publicized.
It's called teenage angst. Hopefully they'll outgrow it, then they'll realize how bad life really DOES suck.
