I just got back from Cimmarron New Mexico from my 65 mile trek at Philmont Scout Ranch. It was great if anyone has been holla back...i got my pack to 40lbs which is nice because i weight 230 so it was fine. The weather was great except when i got hailed on in the shower. can you say red assed? but im definitly going back. our highest elev. was 11000 ft on Black mountian. Definitly a killer hike with packs on considering it had a 45% incline and not a normal 8-20% but the view was worth it. from the top you could see mt. baldy which is 12,000 ft and still had snow on top on one side, and from the other you could see the tooth of time and the new mexico plains. overall 100% great trip :)

I have a friend who went three times... he wants to go back as a leader or ranger or whatever. I've seen pictures.... it is beautiful there. I especially love that dual wooden toilet.

Oh, did you go on the advanced hike... or the normal one?

Yeah the toilets are called pilots to bombadiers (sp) but yeah you can go on certian hikes that are like 7 days and i went on the 12 day one it was great. If i were to work there i would want to work back country staff though. they do like the rock climbing and horseriding and such.

12 days? My friend went on a 21 day hike... I think he went on one with his troop and then did a short one on his own (with other scouts from around the country) and then a long one in the same situation. I was going to tell you things about the 21 day one... but they are top secret.

Yeah, Reyado... thats it. Do it, do it, do it. It sounded amazing... and hard. My friend said it was a once in a life-time experience... then he did it again the next year. haha.

They don't just hiking either...They do horseback riding...

I kinda want to go there, but I dunno. It'd be fun, but long.

I went a few years ago. It was a great experience for all of us. I especially liked our stay at Beubien (sp), the horse ranch place. It was beautiful and I wouldlove to go back someday

I've been to Philmont twice in my younger years, once as the crew leader. Awesome experience. Also saw Mt. Baldy, and tooth of time. Did you stand out on lovers leap? I forget the story behind it. Something about indians jumping off it to join their lovers in death or something like that. Anyone know? Gotta love the dehydrated food too. I was also kinda thinkin i might like to go back as a guide or leader or something. Anyone know how to go about doing that? Theirs just something about that place that pulls you back huh?
    Peace

Yeah you have to get a application first. the first year you have to work in base camp i think then you can become a guide or back country staff.
