Before I learned of this site, I wanted dreads. I went to a place where he sectioned and twisted and waxed. The twists fell out so I backcombed them my self. I read that wax is super bad here. What should I do?
backcombing isnt bad for your dreads, for your hair, yes. but if your worried about healthy hair than you shouldnt be trying dreads. you should wax after you dread but not too much. i only backcomb after my hair is dry and clean. let it air dry, it will look like poop but the next day section, backcomb then wax. good luck you can do it!
:O omgosh. Worried... just dont do anything yet. Take the time to REALLY read the posts here. Its all a personal decision but if you dig around here youll find majority rules. Back combing should only be done once, if at all. Wax.... 99% of the population here will tell you its a HUGE no no and provide you 100 reasons why. Good lock luck to you! Knowledge is PoWa!
actually, backcombing isn't too great to do to dreads either. It's very rough on the hair and should only be done once, if at all. You CAN get split ends in dreads and the tips can snap off if they are overly damaged. Some hair types can take more abuse than others though. I firmly believe "healthy" hair = long, healthy dreads.
agreed mines never been abused that way and the only abuse its getting is from dragging oin the ground and beinmg stepped on\ i have no split ends at all] about the icky wax read the wax removal thread the wax removal is burried in there though after a few pages so read through em all till u find it wax is evil shit wash thAt crap out if u really think u wanna backcomb u wanna doi it only ince and even if it all falls apart completely dont rebackcomb u dont wANT BANDS IN YOUR HAIR MORE THEN A DAY EITHER NOTHINGH U DO WILL DO MORE TO GET U DREADS THEN BEING PATIENMT WILL U DONT NEED TO DO A DAMN THING BUT KEEP EM CLEAN TO GET AMAZIN DREADS when these were started i never heard of backcombing all i knew was dreads happen if u dont combv and just let emj happen thats all i needed to know having never backcombed or waxed they grew very healthy and very strong and have lasted almost 2 decades waxed dreads usualy dont last long they get gross and end up being cut but if u get that crap out now u can save them
