so, I was reading the newspaper and this guy is going to all Mcdonalds everywhere and getting their used frying oil for his car. It was easy as 123 he said, to do this, and cost nothing. So, it makes living on the road practically FREE. I want to do this, allthough I dont yet own a car :p, but will soon. Anyone know anyone who can do this is the states.. or.. any tips?

    Thanks!

it has to be a diesel, and then you have to convert your car, and then you have to filter the waste veggie oil which takes a few days. Hard to do on the road. (unless you have a bus, which has it's drawbacks) Easy to do if you set it up at your home.

lets not forget that most states are now requiring you to purchase a tax stamp if your going to run your vehicle on it and its becoming much harder to get free as there are companies popping up all over that buy it and convert it to bio diesel..

    I thought about it
but it just isn't worth it.

So I just don't drive at all.
    Bikes are where it's at.

hm.. I see.. but apparently this guy bought a "Golden Fuel Systems "pack online, and easily converted his car himself. I don't think his car was running on diesel, and it was also really old. They tested if it could run more than 8000km on fat, and it did. and he only stopped at Mcdonalds and stored it in his car..
    dunno..

I've worked on a few cars that were converted. It has to be a diesel, a gas engine won't run on waste oil. I always seem to live in cold places and the heaters always seem to go out at the worst possible time, and when that happens it isn't much fun.

It's actually quite simple. You take waste vegetable oil (WVO) filter it through a cheap paint strainer, heat it to 110F to reduce the viscosity, and it will burn in any diesel engine with no negative effects to the engine and no fluorocarbon emissions whatsoever.

In fact the only byproduct is that your car exhaust smells like french fries.

You can buy entire kits or individual components to heat the oil in an auxiliary tank or in a heat exhanger that attaches to the fuel line. Google the conversion kit and see if they have a kit for your car. The instructions are pretty simple, anyone could install it.
