We all know who we are and have seen them in our gym, but which one are you? Gym Gits I'm definitley #4 Social Butterfly
is there a type for "people who haven't set foot in a gym since high school and wouldn't know how to use any of that new-fangled apparatus"?
At the moment Im getting fit , Im in mighty poor shape and its my own fault, Ive looked at local gyms and there is one just across the road from me that may be ok Ive been told its a serious place but gyms today are mighty ropey . what Im looking for is somewhere like gym jones in utah , or my grandfathers gym that he had at the back of his pub where he trained boxers in the 1930s he helped train some british and empire champions, and helped with one fighter who fought joe louis for the heavy weight world title ,as well as one of my uncles who fought in boxing booths against all comers and did bare knuckle fighting and was either a welsh or british champion . but sadly today such gyms are mighty rare , their too fancy you have tv and seats and fancy weight machines , really I may not need a gym I can rig up most of what I need, but Id like some company to train with but they would need to be mad because of the sort of thing I intend doing . Im on a paleo diet Ive strained my neck somehow I think lifting to much wieght without being warmed up so concentrating on running up hills mainly and along beaches although my neck will be better in a day or so and will workout more for strength then . http://www.gymjones.com/ this is a fine gym http://nz.youtube.com/watch?v=TCIN6mJS5Tk&feature=related http://nz.youtube.com/watch?v=kUaNHvJm_60 lots of their old methods on youtube they trained the guys for 300
I'm the "I'll do it my way thanks" type of gym person. What really annoys me is some scrawny "gym instructor" telling everyone else how to do it , when he cant do fuck himself. I went kickboxing and the coach was a bit of a tit. Asked me to kick the shield he was holding.I asked him ( several times)to step back from the wall but he was all "nahh u cant move me, Im brilliant". So eventually I kicked it and he went flying into the wall like a rag doll- and banged his head. I was a bit embarrassed , but the class thought"yeah shouldve stepped back , the tit". PS Jonny2 I *love* padwork , footwork and all that. Treadmills are crap in comparison.
What annoys me is people who drive to the gym in order to pay through the nose to get fit. Why didn't they just jog or cycle there and back, no need to actually go in at all... Cheaper and more fun to do it the old fashioned way
I dont go to the gym. Oh and I really cant stand those gym freaks...And people who exercise way too much. Its annoying.
I think future "sports centres" will be much more sport , social and maybe even outdoors orientated. Current gyms often look like the inside of a prison. And overtraining amazes me too.. Variety and balance should be the key IMO
well years ago people didnt need to go to the gym so much because a lot of them lived physical lives. Ive told a lot of people this but the best body Ive ever seen on a man was my grandfather at about 70, he had been a coal miner from about 14 maybe younger , he had silicosis which killed him but apart from that was in terrific shape and that was just from using a pick axe or shovel all day all his life , you got paid by how much coal you got so you didnt stop for breaks much . what shocks me is the poor shape of people today , most of what we think of as aging or disease is self imposed by our bad diet and lack of exercise .
overtraining is interesting , I think its more likely to happen whenyou work out just one muscle group and your not eating right . I think more people under train in that they dont do that much and so are not really improving . for diet I was on a totally wholefoods diet , but have moved onto the paleo diet which is basically what a caveman would eat or as close to it as you can get so nuts fruit raw vegetables fish eggs meat really cavemen would have eaten raw meat but , I cook the meat . and Im eating lots of small meals throughout the day
Bad habits too, our grandparents would have thought nothing of walking a few miles to go shopping or go to work, now many people would be shocked about the prospect of leaving their car at home for journeys of just a few minutes. My work is 13 miles away from my house, I usually cycle it...
"According to the World Health Organization, physical inactivity is second only to tobacco smoking as a health risk in developed countries."
I love my gym, it is big and fancy and has all the gym gits in there, including myself I love people watching and companionship while I work out. I love outdoor exercise too though, but sometimes the weather isn't permitting, or it is dark out and I don't feel safe walking on the beach or jogging my streets, so a gym is great. I also like the classes there, such as my dancing class, as well as perving at hot guys haha.
im the "all talk, no action" type. lol i tell myself that i'd go to the gym everyday, and make it a regular routine... but i never end up doing that... i go to the gym for a bout 3 days in a row, then i give up.. lol. its hard...
Robert Palmer's song Pride is a brilliant put-down of the whole gym thing: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1yRbWx-0FUw
To me , the best way to do the gym is targets and working hard. Its just about finding something u enjoy. Johnny2 , u make a good point on ageing , exer and diet You should see Chinese kung fu masters and the like. 80 years old and they look and act 50 years younger.Amazing stuff.
well watched it didnt make me think people who keep fit are not the smart ones he died at 54 of a heart attack christ wasnt he smart . my mother and father died recently both 80s my mother was still doing karate she also went to glastonbury right up until she died she looked about 50 ,she exercised was still mountain walking till she died ,although I think she could have done a lot of things better she had the right attitude same with my father . they both died of things which are not as easy to avoid like cancer although I think thats effected a lot by diet
