    The beauty of Maya is that every cloud has a silver lining?

    Or does Maya relate more to the buddhist philosphy of Dukkha?

    Or is Maya more like this?

    Maya is everything that is a product of Nature, that which causes us to remain attached to our notions of reality. It's like a screen between you and the rest of existence, the veil that hides the unity in all of creation.

    Maya is everything between you and the absolute.

    Even the concept of maya is maya.

    In the whole of things, there is no such thing as illusion. The idea of maya is when a human becomes locked into this physical world at the exclusion of the ultimate reality outside of it.

    When you loose contact with that, you think that the physical world as percieved through your physical senses is all there is. That becomes your absolute reality. Made of clay.

    But when compared with the real absolute, the value of gold over clay becomes plain.

    Maya isn't so much illusion as it is a cheap reality.

    But is not everything between you and the Absolute nothing more than your perception of what everything is? And therefor would be more illusion than a cheap reality, considering that reality may very well have no basis in, well, reality? Just a cheap thought :tongue:

    As long as you identify with the human self, the approach to the "divine" is always going to have a timeline of some kind attached to it. Because humans are time aware by default when they incarnate. The human self is your starting point. The yellow brick road lies ahead.

    A journey. A path. Some kind of unfoldment occurs. The lower self and higher self pass each other like dancers twirling on the floor before they finally melt together like two drops of mercury.

    Where there was two, there is now one. With no loss.

    The human self is still accessable after the fact, but it is now it's a non profit booth at the flea market instead of a residence.

    Maya is the creative power of Brahman. Same concept as Ishwara/Shakti.

    Brahman = the One
    Maya = the diversity

    The illusion is that we see only the diversity. When we see the One, we realize that the diversity is only a manifestation of That. All exists, as Krishna says in Bhagavad Gita, within God. There is nothing other than God. He produces the universe out of Himself.

    If you could pull parts of yourself off and make little mini me's out of the pieces, allow them to have their own lives in the world they create for themselves, you can understand how "God" makes us. The mini me's.

    The mini me's world belongs to the mini me's. It is not representative of the higher reality of "God"

    Its real to the mini me's, but not to the parent that watches it's child play and create.

    I don't think the mini me's make the world. It was here a long time before their arising.

    They only think it belongs to them. In fact it 'belongs' to the divine. It is representative of God as it is a manifestation in form of God, if only a partial representation.

    It's real to both - but real in a different way.

    Maya is worshipped as a Goddess who is the one who gives birth to all duality. For instance from one woman's body comes another. So also the stream of diversity gives birth also endlessly to itself and noone can say from where it began or when it will end. This is the greatness of Goddess Maya is that if one loves her then it's as if ones very mind and harshness can just dissolve and one can at last rest their weary minds. So say hurray for Goddess Maya who just may sooth your forehead at some point. Besides her knowledge is a Mahavidya. That is, the range of Maya is from smaller to the smallest to larger than the largest. So one should know that already you are held in her bosom.

    Not mention Kizen that Mahamaya was the name of the mother of the historical Buddha.

    Mula Maya, Maha Maya and Maya

    The world is a composite of

    1) Primary energy (Mula Maya),

    2) Matter, awareness and different forms of energy like light, heat etc. (Maha Maya) and

    3) The forms of matter and feelings of awareness (Maya).

    For the soul only Maya is unreal because soul being awareness is in the higher plane. The soul is a part of Maha Maya. Maya is like the drama which is restricted to the roles and dialogues including actions (feelings). The actors, dresses, lights and stage constitute Maha Maya which remains even after the drama. Even if these items of Maha Maya are removed, the ground remains eternal which is like the Mula Maya. Therefore, with reference to the soul, only the drama is unreal.

    The Unreal world for the soul is restricted to the Maya only. If you define the world as Maha Maya and Mula Maya, it is real for the soul. If you define the world as Maya, Maha Maya and Mula Maya put together, it is mixture of reality and unreality and hence can neither be stated as real nor unreal (Mithya of Shankara). If you restrict the world to Maya only, it is nothing (Shunyam of Buddhists and Asat of Gaudapada). If you restrict the world to Maha Maya and Mula Maya, it is real (Sat of Ramanuja and Madhva). Therefore, with reference to the soul the world can be real or unreal or a mixture of both according to the limitations of the restricted part of the creation.

    If the reference is changed from soul to God, the entire creation is unreal because there is nothing other than God. But to prove the reality of the entertainment of God, the world has to be real for God also and this requires the separate existence of the world. A negligible part of God might have been modified into the world so that both the concepts can be simultaneously maintained. A negligible quantity can be treated almost nil. Such modification can be treated as real (Parinama) or apparent (Vivarta). It is immaterial because the modified part is very much negligible. But in any case, the knowledge of the nature of God becomes essential. All this can be accepted if you place the primary energy in the place of God. But the primary energy is only the first creation of God. Therefore, all this analysis ends with only the first item of the creation (Primary energy). The link between God and Primary energy is unimaginable since God Himself is unimaginable. This is the analysis that can be done with the help of scriptures, science and logic and experience of liberated souls. We can combine these two concepts and arrive at Primary energy charged by unimaginable God as the starting point to avoid defects from both sides. Now the problem is solved.
