Hello guys. Will someone please tell me how to treat cuttings? I mean... I have got this wonderful female, and I want to make a cutting - but should I place this cutting in a vase with water and let it root in there before I plant it, or should I plant the cutting directly into the soil (just like that you can do with - for instance - willow cuttings)..? Love, -wolf-
Okay, I apologize, I just read following answer at the cloning sticky: Cloning straight to soil can have a low success rate and is very dependent on the type pf soil that you are using. Use the wrong soil and the clone will fail quickly. The best soil for cloning is a standard loam type with an even N PK ratio. Avoid using seedling or cutting soils as most of these have added hormones and nutrients that are not suitable for cannabis or cannabis cuttings. Cloning in water also has a low success rate because the roots need air to breath once they have developed. If they remain submerged, the cuttings will eventually die. In water cloning, the cutting needs to be transferred to another medium, such as soil, rockwool or a hydroponics system. This means that the clone will have to move through a number of mediums before finally being transplanted to the main growing environment. Multiple transplants can lead to stress and the overall success rate can decrease because of this. Sorry about that, guys... ...but well, now since my thread has been launched, additional advices or tips are welcome, ofcourse. love, -wolf-
I built a small aerophonic cloner out of a 2 1/2 gallon cat littler bucket that had a tight fitting lid. with aerophonics, the plant doesn't sit exactly in the water and I set if for off periods so the root have a chance to dry a little between wettings. Besides that, I use strait soil. After I take clippings, I dip them in rooting hormone and right into the soil they go. I put them under a domes lid and mist the plants and the inside of the dome several times a day. They only need to be under a simple 26 w CFL untill they establish their roots. Takes about 7-10 days average to establish roots. With the aerocloner, there is no need for adome or for misting. Check out youtube and search marijuana cloneing..You will be surprised at all the helpfull vidieos there
lol it's not that complicated. I use rockwool (grodan) or rapid rooters. Take your cutting with a clean sharp razor, cut at a 45 degree angle while under water, dip in cloning gel/powder. Put this in the rockwool/rapid rooter. Place the cuttings in a humidity dome, hell i use large clear tupperware set on its lid. Keep the cuttings under 24/7 light, nothing too strong. Keep them moist altho in a sealed container they should be fine. Make sure you trim the leaves back to over 50% to avoid transpiration and aid in root formation. LEave them sealed up for a week, then start looking for roots.
Only thing i find with cutting in soils is if ya over mist or over water they tend to damp off ie the bottom 10mm swells which stunts there growing. I dont bother using any domes or contains just sit them under the mother plants out of direct or strong light.
