There's a big difference between puttng a mask over a prisoners' faces and piling them up, and sodomizing children. BIG difference.
Saying those tapes don't exsist is like saying Bin Laden did not admit responsibility for 9/11. One would have to question what would constitute as REAL evidence if tapes, investigations, hearings, etc are not sufficient enough.
I have a strong feeling we will see these tapes between now and election time. I think there is a lot being held back right now by many potential sources who are waiting for the right moment to "leak"... BTW, this image shows 9 people involved in this one scene. Have that many been charged yet? And the low res and quality of this image indicates it was probably a screen capture from a video tape, which of course we haven't seen yet. Anyone with NEW images of US prisoner abuse is welcome to post them here.
There was an article printed here in Britain - don't know if it made the US papers - that says that the IRA guys who were arrested by the British army got pretty much the same treatment: torture light with humiliating trophy photos. http://www.guardian.co.uk/Northern_Ireland/Story/0,2763,1232058,00.html The only difference being that somebody leaked the Iraq photos and the story got out because there was proof, and the world cared. Perhaps the worst part of this is not that it was an unusual abomination, but that it is what happens behind the closed walls of prisons as standard procedure.
The point is pretty much boiling down to "Theres no proof" and well your right. For now at least. But think about it. How long has information been held back from the public by the big guy? Shit we still don't know all the details behind Kennedy, so do you think its really that hard for them to withhold a few tapes. Remember how Nixon tap danced around his missing audio tapes? How LIGHT he got off for it (Sorry if I seem to be straying Skip, I'm trying to bring it to a central point.) Information, be it audio, video, or text can be hidden or destroyed and people held acountable will be tied up in the system until it goes away (that make sense?) If/When the tapes are released the first thing that people will jump on will be its authenticity. It will be deemed fake or something along that line. It happened when those images of British abuse scandels happened as well as when good ole US of A had its. As for the morale issue of these tapes... Good. Our soldiers should be getting PISSED OFF about the abuse and the torture and the possible rape of young boys. But no. I'm seeing people say that its not good for them to see images of their own doing that. We're supposed to be about something better. Something like... justice? Thats why we invaded in the first place right? If these crimes are being commited then we need to prosocute the offenders. PERIOD
Here's an indepth article published in Rolling Stone magazine detailing many of the abuses at the prison that have NOT YET been made public by the Government. In fact it appears there is much still being covered up by those who are still in the same jobs overseeing the prisons & interrogations... http://www.rollingstone.com/politics/story?id=6388256&pageid=rs.Home&pageregion=single7
If we resort to these tactics how are we any better than Sadaam was? What higher standards are we fighting for? I was apalled by Sarah Palin's comment at the Republican Convention laughing about withholding anyone's rights under any circumstances is a big red flag for me. They lost my respect totally that moment. Had John McCain's human rights been totally ignored during his capture he would not be alive today. He received medical care, as an admiral's son he received more respect than he was due.
BTW, anyone insulting our members again with the line:"shut the hell up or move to another country" or something similar will be automatically banned as a troll. Got it? I have to admit, though... if the Democrats pick up a lot of seats in November AND the presidency, I will have to seriously consider getting an "America Love it or Leave it" sticker for my car
